The Buckeyes now stand at 18-0 and should be ranked number 1 in the polls tomorrow. We have been winning on the road as well as at home. Sullinger (All American HS) and Craft, our point guard are really meshing nicely with the juniors and seniors. Freshman point guards surprise me frm time to time. Deshawn Thomas, freshman from Ft Wayne and Mr Indiana basketball, is sitting on the bench for the most part. Matta apparently is not comfortable with his defensive efforts at this point. Iowa here in Columbus mid week and we than travel to Illinois next Saturday afternoon and the game will be televised by CBS.
They are a very good team and are headed toward a number 1 seed in the tournament. The Gators have lost 4 games this year but only Ohio State rolled over us.
Don, Craft is the real surprise of the class.....everybody knew about Sully - perhaps not to the degree of excellence he has shown - but Craft was more of an unknown commodity. Not only can he run the offense and distribute the ball with a minimum of turnovers - esp for a frosh - but he is an outstanding on-ball defender and as he showed last night, when they double down on the post off Craft he just steps back and drains the trey.....love that kid. With all the youth on this team, they will only continue to get better esp on the defensive end....when they play solid defense, this team has a chance to be very, very good. Offensively, they are extraordinary.....opposing coaches are simply in a no-win position of choosing their own poison. Good stuff....
Speaking of Ohio State <r>Check this out.<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/245542"><s></s>http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/245542<e></e></URL></r>
I've seen that before pretty amazing. There are firms who build models out of Legos for Architects...pretty amazing stuff those legos.
Talk about patience! He must have spent hours and hours in that basement. I wonder if he is married? LOL
I just read in our local paper that Legos (a Danish company) will open a Legos store here in Indy in April a couple of miles from where we live. Apparently, it's quite an attraction. People come from many miles away to visit. I'll have to check it out.
Nice to have the recognition, but I hope it lasts longer than our 5 day perch atop the football polls this fall! With Illinois and Purdue coming up as well as road trips to Minny and Madison shortly thereafter, the road ahead is filled with monster potholes.....it's been a long time since anybody got through the conference schedule unscathed.....35 years or so right? IU 1976?
That's the good thing about college basketball, it's nice to be #1 and I'd like it if my team were #1. But a few loses don't end your season. Ultimately it's all about where you are seeded! But congrats, like I said I wish one of my teams were #1!
Hear you loud and clear Buckeye Terry! Very difficult for any team to go undefeated in this day and age.
And wouldn't you know.....it takes a panel of judges to arbitrarily decide those seedings and where games should be played ,etc. by which team by utilizing such data as W/L, SOS, rankings, "good wins", "bad wins"....prior conference success "last year".....etc.
......and that of course equates the 65, now I guess it's 69 including 31 of which are automatic qualifiers relying on nothing but their game results to earn their way in, teams that have an opportunity to compete for the title on the field of play to the 2 team tourney of FBS football and only FBS football.....sorry but you'll forgive me if I don't buy it.....
Ah yes....but every team's road to the title is directed by that NCAA panel's brew of objective data....and subjective reasonings. Football in a playoff could not avoid that and in fact the end result controversies would be significant because of the big advantages gained by home field. It's OK.....we can talk football playoff etc. being played "on the field" but those other parameters all determined by such a mix of objective/subjective data should be acknowledged as a critical part of the equation also.
69 with an opportunity -v- 2..... Being disadvantaged as a result of having to play on the road pales in comparison to being disadvantaged as a result of not having the opportunity for any but 2 to compete at all just because of a popularity contest.....it's not remotely close in my estimation, but I understand there are those that have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.
I know there are those "Seattle Seahawks" out there in the college football world that really have no chance to win an NCAA Title but would love the chance to play the spoiler role anyway. Look.....UF and Penn State had no chance in hell of winning the NCAA title this year but they did play a very entertaining game in the Outback and the W left all Gator fans smiling. A first round playoff thumping would have no such effect and been a lot less fun for both Penn St and Florida. Maybe it would make for great theatre.....and be a fan favorite but I don't think it would give us a true champion every year because of the inconsistent nature of such things. Also.....the injury bug bothers me a lot. I understand the pros deal with it but the players in the pros have better back-ups for one and they have better trainers for another. Two games with the "Seahawks" immediately preceeding the Title Game could result in a Cam-less Auburn for instance. There could be some very diluted champions. But the number one thing as I say that I would have trouble with is the seedings for home field advantages. Hey...I am just playing the devil's advocate and pointing out the complexities and shortcomings of a playoff when a lot of people see none of those things as possibilities.
It is not perfect, there will always be issues but it is a vast improvement, certainly more in tune with the concept of competition evidenced elsewhere in the sporting world, in my estimation..... There is no logical reason that FBS football is the only competitive endeavor on any level of which I'm aware that so limits the participants in the championship game in such a material manner completely unrelated to the results on the field of play. We'll just have to agree to disagree.....
DING! DING! DING!. THE ONLY NCAA DIVISION WITHOUT A TOURNAMENT IS THE FBS????? The only one. If the anti-playoff argument works for the FBS then it should work for all of those other football divisions and all of the other sports. :?:
