What a game. Both teams make big plays in the last minute and a half but Ohio State hangs on. Congratulations to all Buckeye fans.
Unbelievable ending to that game...blocked punt and it looks like the Hogs will win, then Mallet throws the pick. As to that safety, that was a hose job...they should have blown the whistle after they drove the kid 5 yds deep into the endzone. Congrats to Stu, Don, BuckeyeT, G-Man (somebody check the emergency rooms not sure his ticker is strong enough for a game like that).
Thanks Bill, way past my bedtime! Second half really wild. After our punt was blocked, I thought o shi-. we are going to let them score. Then the interception and it was all over. Excellent way to end the game. Wining the bowl game always makes for a nice way to finish the season. Now we have that monkey off our back about losing to the SEC!
Could not believe some of those calls... Especially the safety. Congratulations to the Buckeye nation.
8) Well...well...if it isn't the Bowery Boys. If ever there was a team that didn't deserve to win a game, it was Ohio State in this one. I have never seen a team choke that bad and still win. The Buckeyes had a MUCH better team than Arkansas, ran up a huge lead, then did everything in their power to blow it. They looked wooden and afraid to do anything in the 4th quarter and they were totally paralyzed in the final 2 minutes. In the end, it took one of the Tattoo Five to save the day...probably because he had been sitting on the bench through most of the game and had enough free brain cells left to make a play. Wowza. I always wondered how Ohio State could lose so many consecutive games to SEC teams which had inferior athletes. Now I know. This game explained everything. ..........I'd Rather Be Lucky Than Good......JO'Co
Congrats to the Buckeyes.....what a game to watch. So many ups and downs and twists and turns but in the end the team that made the most mistakes lost and none bigger than this one: "How could Arkansas not at least make the attempt to scoop and score on the late blocked punt? Remember, on a fourth-down play, possession changes as soon as toe meets leather. Arkansas could touch the ball and not lose possession. Only if Arkansas made a genuine recovery of the ball and then lost control would the Hogs have forfeited possession back to Ohio State. There was no risk of losing the ball on a scoop-and-score attempt, and that oversight prevented the Razorbacks from gaining a 32-31 lead." I was shaking my head on that one and glad I wasn't a Hog fan.
I'm happy the Buckeyes held on but I am finished with Pryor and I hope he's finished with OSU. He's an average passer at best and his body language screams out "it's all about me". He is the new Jamarcus Russell in waiting.
As far as Pryor goes, you have to admit he made a couple of incredible right on the money long throws.
Pryor seems to be all about his scrambling ability.....which is very very good once he gets going.....especially to the outside last night anyway.
Re Pryor, I think many of us have mixed emotions. I agree he is mostly look at me, but he has grown up and been adored in that light. Tough nut for a youngster to ignore maybe? Maurice Clarret was in the same category, but much more vocal. NCAA rules are open for discussion, but they are the rules that colleges have to adhere to as well. I am confident there are many violations that we never hear about across the board. Local poll in today's newspaper shows 71% of the fans want him to return. Life goes on!
He doesn't seem like the kind of kid who will return when the NFL could provide a paycheck ( at least temporarily).....but I think he could improve his draft stock immensely if he did.....unless the OSU offense is missing a key ingredient next year such as a reliable running game or some good OL play. Ultimately the agents he listens to will most likely enable him to decide.
I thought he had already agreed to come back? Didn't all of the players involved agree to come back and serve their suspensions? :?:
George and Stu, thanks for posting the video's of the Ohio State band. That's what college football has that the pros never will. PJ in Jersey
Pretty good summary of the game; http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2011/01/final_grains_from_the_sugar_bo.html Brings up that the no huddle was instrumental in getting the first half lead...and going away from it in the second half to eat clock almost caused disaster. I realized our defensive backfield was stretched thin when Checkwa went out, but did not realize that we had six of them out and were down to using our 11th best DB at points in the game. He talks about the blocked punt...special team screwups have plagued us all year...and Tressel always emphasizes special teams play...but that's why I'm not too concerned. (I did, however, think we'd get it fixed before the final offensive play of the season. ) Onside kick...very un-Tressellike.
In that last minute...going for it on 4th down in your own territory and fumbling, then making the defensive stop, then getting the punt blocked....I'm glad I wasn't a OSU fan at that point, you guys had to be feeling lower than Whale poop. ...followed by oh my gawd happiness!
And I was saying the same thing about Arkansas fans. Hard to take that loss after watching the Arky player fall on the punt block instead of picking it up and running it in for the score. I suspect it is drummed in their head not to be a hero......fall on the ball and secure the loose ball yada yada yada... But in this case OSU could have recovered it and it wouldn't have mattered.....1st and 10 Hogs.
TCU fans are posting billboards in Columbus in response to the OSU's president's pre Rose Bowl remarks that teams in BCS conferences do not play against "Little Sisters of the Poor". http://college-football.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/26885361?ttag=gen10_on_all_fb_na_txt_0001
