That was beyond painful for me to watch and honestly I just couldn't stomach it all.....I did find some comfort in reading the Cane forums and the meltdown that the game put it in....Always good for a laugh... Pretty much a weird bowl scenario for us with the interim head coach (Did you see the guys halftime interview, he was scared shitless), cold weather that was not expected, most of the assistant coaches on Miami's sideline losing their jobs after the game, starting RB's mother is being buried the same time as the game is being played and my man Jacory "What color jersey are we again" Harris being bumped up to starting QB with Morris getting hurt earlier in the week and not practicing. But all that nonesense being mentioned Notre Dame took it to us and made us look as bad as I have seen us in a very long time. Notre Dame has much to look forward to as recruiting time arrives, its always good to give the prospective recruits a bowl game to think about as the time gets close to signing...Hopefully when we play again in 2012 we will be more evenly matched and make it interesting for the viewers... Corey - I had to laugh at what you said about the highlights and such it sure did seem like they were talking up Miami as we were getting Thumped every other play. Gary Danielson must wear orange and green underwear with all the love he was giving us....I don't really understand why they acted that way but it was obvious... Great game Irish... Ralph
Corey, let's face it, this crew does the magnificent SEC games every week. After LSU-Ark., the Iron Bowl, the SEC championship game, this game was like turning on a porn movie and finding out it stared Clint Eastwood and Betty White. Since 1980 we've had one NC and the Canes have had 5. Just how many highlights do we have? I'm going to let you in on a little secret. When one team is playing in short sleeves and the other has hoods on to keep their necks warm, the game is over. One team is there to play football, the other is there to survive the terrible conditions.
Great win by the Irish. It's early but I think we got the right coach this time. Just beating USC and Miami in the same year made it a good year for me. Happy New Year everybody. PJ in Jersey
ND <r>I've live in El Paso for 22 yrs now and I don't remember ever having a day like today weather wise for the Sun Bowl. I can tell you for sure that if it hadn't been ND in the game there would be no way I would have sat in that stadium for 4 hours freezing to death!! As cold and overcast and even a little snowy as it was it was all worth it to see ND win this one!! GO IRISH! <E></E></r>
In Defense of CBS, that one appears right. We have lost two bowl games and are working on losing our third. That sounds like a different level to me! :? :? :? :? :? :?
Damn....you just described Tiger Stadium in Detroit...opening day circa 1985. Glad to be out of there.
On behalf of all those that still live here and have to read all your posts, we're glad you left. How did you ever think you could survive here?
One thing I noticed is that the Stadium was full and stayed full, many of the games so far have been played before far less than full capacity. Kudo's to people of El Paso for coming out in very cold weather to support the Irish! Looked like pretty much 90% Irish crowd.
Didn't like the reason I was able to move here.........but the end result is pretty good. I'll never miss the slop, grime and cold of a winter in Detroit.
Wowza! What a great win. - Kudos to Tim and Brian and all the other subways who stayed and cheered for the entire game... - Gipper is right. Irish players with bare arms vs. Canes bundled up like Eskimos was a critical factor in this game. Southerners had better hope that a national playoff system never begins. The only fair playoff system would include winter playoff games in the north... - Ralph is right. The Canes had a perfect storm of problems for this game that included a temporary head coach who was so indimidated by his new responsibilities that he couldn't think and answer questions at the same time... - Kelly and Diaco are now off the hook. After the Tulsa fiasco Notre Dame Nation had turned into an angry lynch mob, but everything is now back on track. I think Diaco proved that he could stop the option against Army and Kelly's year-long decision to avoid the indoor practice facility and work outside in cold weather paid off today... - Everybody is right about CBS. That was the most one-sided broadcast that I've ever heard. With 3 minutes left in the game, it sounded like Miami was getting ready to blow us out, despite the fact that starters like Michael Floyd and Manti Teo hadn't played since the 3rd qtr. It was pathetic... - Starting right now, we are offically loaded at the QB position: Crist, Rees, Hendrix, Massa, Golson and Montana's kid who will be lucky if he gets to run the practice squad... - We now have THREE (count em!) kickoff returners with Collinsworth, Jackson and Wood... - We're also now loaded at WR. I don't think Kelly cares if Michael Floyd comes back or not. Goodman, Jones, Riddick, Toma, Collinsworth and Bennet Jackson all return and incoming freshman George Atkinson may beat out all of them... - Lots of hope for the new year. When are pitchers & catchers again?
Ah Tom, nice to see you came around on Dooley. I remember telling you from the start I was impressed with him, and I'm not like some fans that wants you to get a bad coach. I thought from the start Kiffin was a bad fit and from the start Dooley was a good fit. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to say I told you so, but just saying you now have a quality coach and Kiffin was/is not a quality coach and person. In spite of the fact his wife has good blood lines.
Bill for now the faithful are all pretty happy. The big reasons are the turnaround in the defense over the last part of the season and the offense sticking to running the football. And of course the wins. If he can finish out the recruiting class with some good pickups, to counter those kids who decommited around the time of the Navy/Tulsa losses then he will be riding high with the fans. A top 10 finish in recruiting would be huge, not esp likely but if so would be huge for him. That's an area that many Kelly detractors said that ND was too big a stage, recruiting, he had no experience recruiting the type of kids you need to win at ND and no experience recruiting kids nationally like ND has to do. He was deemed "small timey"! Next fall he starts all over from square 1 with a difficult early schedule.
Let me predict Terry that Kelly is going to be successful. Also Dooley and Muschamp. Let the football world beware!
ND <r>Well this Irish fan is happy with Kelly for sure. At one point in the season I was beginning to wonder but obviously Kelly is a keeper as far as I'm concerned. We did lose some kids in this years recruiting class but I'm hoping for a strong finish and to end up with a nice class. <br/> <br/> Watching this team play yesterday they just seemed so confident in themselves the whole game. They came out and smacked Miami in the face and never really looked back. <br/> <br/> Go Irish! <E>8)</E></r>
