Using the Auburn exception, those players should have said their dads sold them with out their knowledge!
Well.....chances are good that the suspended players will now lay it all on the field for the Sugar Bowl because they will be trying out for the NFL.
The Cam Newton Defense! Yes, AJ Green was suspended for 4 games but he apparently didn't use the Newton Defense, because he didn't get to play one more game before the penalty came into effect. :?:
Pryor tweeted that Herbstriet is a fake Buckeye... I found this transcript on line: it's pretty close to what you can listen to at Cowherds site on espn. Herby on Cowherd Kirks response today on Cowherd in regards to the suspension... "I just think this is clearly something that has blown up the Ohio State program up a little bit. For me personally, I don’t know Terrelle Pryor as an individual, just watching him grow as a player on and off the field, I think all of us have said he has grown on the field. My problem has always been on his actions off the field, on the sidelines, kicking water bottles, frustrated, disgusted, just not being a great leader. You wonder how much involvement he had in this, if he was the ringleader in this. This is a selfish act by Pryor and the other players, in my opinions this is addition by subtraction for 2011. I heard you talking about this team, they are losing Cameron Heyward to graduation and now all of these players. What are they going to do here. This program will get back to its core values which Jim Tressel believes in which is team. Team, I know a novel concept. Not worrying about the NFL draft, not worrying about what you’re a tweeting, but worrying about winning football games and trying to get better as a player and not worrying about 'The League.' I have seen Terrell Pryors' high school coach come out and say that they juniors will have to re-evaluate wand think about the NFL. What? That’s your reaction to all of this? It wreaks of selfishness and immaturity and it is not shocking, it happens you, move on. In my opinion OSU will become a stronger program in the long run as a result. Maybe this will teach Pryor and the others to worry about team versus themselves. Imagine this, Terrelle Pryor (and others) have to sit out five games and I am not going to say we are going to have a Jeremiah Massoli situation. But are we to expect to believe that he is going to all of the sudden fall in line and he is going to do everything that Coach Tressel asks him to do between now and game six? How is he going to stay patient, what is he going to do for the first five weeks? I have no idea if Pryor and Tressel have issues, but when I watch a player come off the field and say, 'It’s not my fault,' constantly yelling at Tressel for play calls he does not agree with, sometimes he lets the moment get the best of him. I think he just has a false sense of who he is, I think the system has really failed him, since seventh grade he has been told he was the best thing in the history of football, of sports, because of his basketball. In his mind he is a first-round pick." Cowherd: He’s nuts. Herbstreit: In his mind I am telling you in his mind he believes his a first-round draft pick. Cowherd: That’s great, nobody else thinks that. Herbstreit: Nobody has pulled him aside and said to him, 'Here is where you are headed.' And this is what you need to focus on, you need to change and that’s not about reads and interception ratio. It's about improving and growing. And maybe this will help him step back and see what's happening here. On the track he is on now, he will get done with college and he is not going to go to the NFL. Cowherd: He is not even in the same stratosphere as Cam Newton. Herbstreit: Think about the duel threat quarterbacks, Michael Vick or Vince Young when they were coming out of college, he’s not even in that stratosphere. But in his own mind, nobody has taken him aside and told that to him. Cowherd: I talked to Urban Meyer walking in the halls yesterday, this five-star USA today player of the year stuff you end up with a bunch of limo driving…ugh. Herbstreit: Don’t forget, the reason he selected Ohio State over Michigan and Oregon, offenses more suited to his skill set coming out of high school. Don’t forget, his quote was, 'Ohio State will get me ready for the NFL.' So that was the thinking from the very beginning, that is, in my opinion, a disaster. If that is your goal, to get ready for the NFL, that’s a disaster. You want to hear guys say, ‘I want to go to Ohio State, to play in the Big 10 and play for Coach Tressel and I want to win Big 10 Championships, I want to go the Rose Bowl and I want to win national championships.’ That’s what you want to hear and if you make it to the NFL, great. But you do not walk in, you may think that in your mind, but you don't go somewhere and say they are going to get me ready for the NFL. Cowherd: Wow, good stuff man. Have a happy holiday.
So I'm watching ESPN today and Marcellus Wiley is saying that the kids used the money that they got to "help their families." How nobel is that? One problem, that's complete ********. According to Pryor, he used the items he "sold" to get tattoos. Of course that could be a big help to his family. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/551646-ohio-state-football-bianca-kajlich-rex-ryan-and-todays-top-sports-news/entry/36669-ohio-state-football-players-alleged-to-have-paid-for-tattoos-with-autographs
espn was on a bit ago citing an NFL scout saying that Pryor is someone they'd avoid.. That kid needs to stfu and get his head on right.
As a Buckeye, Terelle Pryor would make a pimple on Kirk Herbstreit's butt. In reality, this is the downside you have to be prepared for when you recruit these five star divas. Most of them have spent minmal time in the classroom in their lives and have been worshipped by adults who should know better since they were playing Pop Warner. the comments of his HS coach above tells you all you need to know.... that guy is obviously an idiot.
The recent suspensions have been difficult to swallow, but I have to agree that fans put these youngsters on a pedastal that is very fragile. The OSU fan base seems to be divided as to the extent of the punishment. About 50% think its too harsh, the other 50% does not think it was enough. I do not think there is any question why the suspensions were deferred to 2011. Money to the Sugar Bowl and Ohio State University the the Big Ten Conference! Right now I could care less if they all go to the NFL. In fact, we might be better off in the long run.
No doubt, but let's not forget to include NCAA - as it was their ruling - , all member institutiions and the network. I have no idea what Tressel will or will not do in addition...that said, I have no doubt he is deeply disappointed in the poor decisions these kids have made, a man of great character and integrity, will put forth a thoughtul response and one that he believes provides the greatest long term benefit to the instition and I will support his decision whatever it may be.... As to the kids helping their families.....these kids are not from well-to-do families and there is no question in my mind that some of the cash was spent on their behalf.....that said, if they were aware of the rules and sold the awards, shame on them if they were unaware at the time they sold them as AD Smith suggested, shame on us. We will do what is necessary to improve in that respect and move forward....
TOK, TP and Herby have been going back and forth for sometime....in truth Herby is not well loved by the Buckeye faithful who - unfairly or not - view Herby as going overboard on his professional objectivity to the point of being anti-Buckeye and TP has given Herby some shots in that regard.....Herby obviously has heard them and I think he'e gone a bit overboard here on TP.....the kid screwed up, made a bad decison and has much work to do before he is a polished public speaker..... in fact one of my fondest wishes for TP is to stay away from a live mike. As for as comparisons to Vick, VY or where he might fall on the board on draft day....clearly he has much work to do to improve his passing game and whether he will get to the point of becoming a top rate NFL QB is problematic and I'll let the NFL GM's concern themselves with that.....what he is is one of the great offensive weapons in college football today capable like few others of dominating the game and there isn't a defensive coordinator in his right mind that would look forward to seeing him across the field on game day.....has it really been that long since last years Rose Bowl?
Check out these sources......! High quality stuff huh! You think there might be one or two schools seeking to capitalize and create some more uncertainty and pilfer a top quality kid or two......ugly business this recruiting stuff. Bill has posted this elsewhere.....somebody pointed out on one of the Buckeye boards that within 10 minutes of the blog posting, the guy had changed the prospective new head coach from Spielman - which is a complete non-starter to another name.....there is just no rationale here....none.
Terry, I listened to the whole interview...and quite frankly I have no issue with what Herby said...any of it.
 :!: I like everything that Herby has said in this particular situation. He seems like a guy who loves his school and loves football and wants things done the right way. Ohio State doesn't need anybody. They didn't even need Woody Hayes. The school and it's football team will do just fine without TP or any other hero of the moment who isn't proud of the awards that they were given. These kids are entitled to zero. If they don't understand that, at Ohio State, or Notre Dame, or Alabama, or UCLA or any place, then let's just move them along and give the free opportunity to someone else who would appreciate what is obviously the chance of a lifetime... ..........JO'Co
