I think it's a good hire, Golden is an excellent recruiter, he is young and he's sort of turned around a moribund Temple program. Randy Edsall might be a more proven head coach, but nobody knows if he can recruit and in the ultracompetitive Fla recruiting wars that's pretty essential.
Honestly I don't know much about Golden with the exception of what was written in the Herald article. I was thinking Marc Trestman would be the one to take it over. I have read on the Cane forums where Golden is recognized as the next big hire in coaching circles and is well respected. As far as recruiting goes the goal for any coach at Miami is to keep the local talent flow coming in and we wil be fine. If Shannon goes to Texas as Def coordinator the flow might not be as smooth as Cane fans hope. Ralph
It's not likely that Mack will start recruiting very much outside the State of Texas. Most years 100% of his classes are Texans, occasionally he goes out of state.
Nobody can win at Temple; not in a million years of trying, yet somehow this guy did. He's a good one and with the local talent level in south Florida he should do well indeed...
Good move by Miami. He did a great job at Temple. Probably the best coach the Owls have had since Wayne Hardin. One thing, lots of people up here think that when Joe Pa retires at Penn State, that Golden will be the top choice to take his place.
I wanted Weis to hire Golden as DC when he went to ND... Golden went on to become to HC at Temple.. I like this hire for Miami.
Hey how come no one is pushing Shianno? 2 or 3 years ago he was being offered up as the next Alabama head coach. :?:
Shianno's not the hot guy anymore. The last couple of years Rutgers just hasn't been very impressive. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't turn it around next year he could be on the hot seat. PJ in Jersey
Dan Golden on the Dan Patrick show....This guy has folks as excited as I have seen in years, he has been impressive in interviews... http://ufootball.tumblr.com/post/2417198927/must-listen-um-head-coach-al-golden-on-the-radio
Shiano is the highest paid public employee in New Jersey. For that reason alone I would like to see him go.
8) Well now we know that Savon Huggins doesn't have an Irish father at home. Can you picture this conversation? Savon: "Hey dad, guess what? I decided to turn down Notre Dame and go to Rutgers!" An Irish father could kill him and make another one that looks just like him...
I haven't heard a sound about Huggins committing to RU. He isn't even supposed to announce until Jan. 28. :?:
I saw something on scout I believe with him going to Rutgers. Also, he wants to go to school with his buddy who is going to Rutgers. Searching for article from last week now.
It's widely assumed that Savon Huggins will go to RU, and that Miles Shuler who is already publicly committed to RU is his buddy and wouldn't have done so if Savon wasn't going to be right behind him. The supposed sticking point for Savon and ND (or any spread school) is the offense. Which makes me wonder why he eliminated Wisconsin, I mean if you want a downhill running team Wisconsin should be at the top of your list. RU does run, but they are a middle of the pack BE team that can't compare to Wisconsin. Oh well.
Well I have to admit that Al Golden has gotten us long time Cane fans to drink the Kool Aide. He has not even coached a game yet for us but this guy has impressed everyone beyond anything we could hope for. One great move along with many others was rehiring Art Kehoe who was the offensive line coach for 27 years and is the only person to have played or coached on all five National Championships...
