Crazy game at the end between Bucs and Redskins. The refs gave Wash. a 5th down......inexplicably and on the 5th down McNabb hits the receiver for a TD getting them to within one point with 9 seconds left. Then the Redskins kicker Gano......obviously an ex-FSU kicker ( missed two short kickes earlier ) is unable to kick the x-point because the holder can't handle a bad snap and the Bucs win anyway. I don't recall seeing an NFL game ever in which there were clearly 5 downs awarded to a team. Anybody know any different?
Can't be any stranger than the Lions/Packers game....by that I mean the Lions won and both teams played without their #1 QB's and in a driving snow storm [outside of course  ]
....unless you are talking about the Vikings-Giants game.......at Ford Field!! Who the hell will be going to that one??? With regard to the Bucs game......how many people either incorrectly made or lost money.......the spread was 1.5 points!
With free tickets being provided to anyone who wants to attend, I'll bet there is a big crowd at the game. Vikings season ticket holders who want to make the trip will get seats on or close to the 50 yard line, and all other seats are free. If I lived in Detroit, I'd be taking everybody I could think of to the game as my guest.
Didn't realize they were giving the tickets away. Might be problematic for Vikings fans to get there due to weather.
I guess it turned out the skins didn't really get 5 downs. I didn't see the game but I read an article saying the Fox announcing crew messed it up.
I have DVR and my son and I rewound and watched it several times because we couldn't believe what we had seen. The problem was caused by a 9 yard pass on 1st and 10 from the 12 yard line taking the ball to just inside the three. We looked carefully to see if the ball was actually on the 12....and it was. Then we looked to see if the pass had made the two and it clearly was spotted about 2 feet away. So it was 2nd and 1 and after that Washington got off 4 plays without ever gaining that two feet necessary for a 1st down. Hence.....they scored on 5th down therefore making every monetary bet on the game and thousands upon thousands of fantasy playoff results illegitimate.
This link explains the reason for the confusion: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/did-the-redskins-get-a-fifth-d.html The initial pass on first down from the 12 only made the 2 1`/2 yard line.....as this writer indicates. It was not a first down and it wasn't even close. The network correctly had the graphic as 2nd and 1 but the stick refs were confused. No matter how you slice it the Skins had 5 downs to get the tying TD....and they did except they mishandled the XP. You would be hearing an enormous noise on this if the Skins had won in OT.
Oh the trials of a Lions fan. Yesterday with less than 2 minutes left in the game, we had a power blackout. The damn power company just couldn't stand Lion's fans getting to watch a rare, rare victory. The last time the Lions beat a divisional opponent was Oct, 2007!!!! So Monday Nite Football returns to Detroit.....sort of. Tickets will be handed out in groups of 4 starting at 9 AM. They will be general admission tix. If any season ticket holders of the Vikes show up, they can get preferred seating near the 50. The game will be telecast in the NYC and Minn. markets but not here in Detroit. The Giants left NY without their outdoor equipment so they decided to find a dome to play in. Although we got hit by the storm yesterday, we have a great airport and there will probably be no problem with getting everyone in for the game.
Gipper......won't the weather keep many at home even though it's free? If it was free Lions people would go anyway but Vikings-Giants? Anyway.....here is an article that clearly explains the five downs.....but doesn't forgive it: http://nflspinzone.com/2010/12/13/clear-evidence-washington-redskins-were-given-5-downs/ If I had the Bucs to cover two points and lost money as a result of this huge gaffe I would be very peeved. Thankfully the Bucs at least won anyway.
The weather is not great but typical for here. We got about 6 in. of snow. Major roads will be OK. The big downside is the temp. We're going to have a high of 16 today. Wind chill right now about -10. I expect that they'll get a decent crowd for tonight. Saw on the local news that some Giants fans drove through the white death (Cleveland weather) and were lined up this morning for tickets. You just know that some young guys are going to go downtown, spend some time at the Greektown Casino and then go over to the game. If I were 30 yrs. younger, I'd go myself.
Just salt Terry that corrodes the hell out of everything....especially your car.... and ruins good shoes if you don't have ugly as hell looking rubber coverings over them.
For people that can afford to have both a new car and a "snow car"....yes it does. You'll have to ask Gipper about that one.
Besides the obvious tax advantage, the salt is another reason I choose to lease cars. Today is one of those days when it's so cold that the salt doesn't really work. Don't mind winter. No bugs, no weeds, and no mildew. Besides, it makes you strong of spirit and appreciate spring.
Hell the bunkers are usually full of snow. Snow by the way can be either a loose impediment or casual water.
