He was Florida's best friend in 2007. If Pitt doesn't upset West Virginia in the last game of the season, Florida does not go to the championship game. That was the highlight of his head coaching tenure at Pitt.

Dave Wannstedt Out After Six Years

EDIT: I had my years wrong. It's LSU who should consider Wannstedt their best friend because it was Pitt's upset of W. Virginia that propelled LSU into the championship game. Heck, all those SEC national championship teams look alike to me.

This guy was not a great coach; he was just a good one and for that he was fired...

I agree with JO'Co, he did an ok job and I'm not sure that they are going to get much better at Pitt. They just don't have the ingredients, fan base, on campus stadium, etc that will support a top tier program. Basketball sure, football I'm just not sure and even if they do make a great hire, I'm guessing it would be a guy who would look to move up to a better program as soon as he could. Wanny was a Pitt guy and not going anywhere.

I will say that their AD is the most hated person ever in the state of Neb! :)

He was very seriously considered as a replacement for Lou. At the time he was coaching the Bears. The padres liked the fact that he went to mass every day.
