It would be pretty amazing for a guy to win a NC at a school and then move on the next year. But he is interviewing for the job and told the newspapers that he expected to get offered the position. He makes 120K at OSU and ND is offering 300K, he did say that he would not make a decision till Thursday. I assume that is the polite way of saying that Oregon State has 24 hours to pony up more money and some other goodies! I don't know any thing about him, Pat Casey, but if what JO'Co says is true. That is that Corvalis is a baseball backwater, that means he's good at spoting overlooked gems and polishing them up. Under Mainiere the Irish did a good job of recruiting and brought in a lot of highly rated talent, even had a #1 recruiting class one year. So maybe at ND he gets access to better talent and all. I wonder how the guys on the team are doing, not knowing who the next coach will be, esp those guys who will be freshmem this fall. Terry Pat Casey Interviewing for ND Baseball Coach
Why are we not surprised? The guy is an Irish-Catholic from Indiana. Oregon State IS a baseball backwater, but its also a place where he could be a big fish in a small pond forever, if he wants it. I think he will take the ND job. There's nothing left to prove in the Pac10, where the real powers like USC, Stanford and Arizona State will overwhelm him sooner or later. At ND, the spotlight will be hotter, but the opportunity will be greater...and he has already shown that he knows where the players are... ...............JO'Co
I heard that the baseball coach at MSU was up for consideration. He went to high schoo with Commish and is only 31. BTW I was in Ore. during the weekend of the Fourth. Stopped by OSU. Nice enough school. How did we get our asses kicked so badly by them? The bookstore was full of NC baseball stuff. Had to get a couple of things for my grandson.
