    Week starts with news that Matt Barkley will miss the game. That's too bad, while it gives us a little more hope we can beat USC, he seems like a good kid and is an excellent QB so I hate to see him injured.

    Also news on the ND front that will ruin gippers trip to Phoenix. ND has another decomit, RB Justice Hayes from Michigan has said there were some things about his offical visit he didn't like and he's going to look for another team. His offical visit was for the Utah game, this is shocking. That was a big win vs a nationally ranked opponent, we ran the ball pretty well and he can't say that it's too far from home. I wonder what the heck happened.

    Maybe we didn't offer him anything that he wanted. Some guys are made for Notre Dame and some are made for Nevada Las Vegas. Imagine his horror when he discovered that all those football players have to attend class and live in dorms with the other students...

    <r>The Hayes decommit is a real stunner. Can't imagine what he wasn't comfortable with after visiting for the Utah game??? <br/>
    <br/>
    This kid was pretty vocal about how committed he was to ND even up to a week ago! Just goes to show you that no matter what these kids say there is no sense counting on them until they sign those papers in Feb. <br/>
    <br/>
    Sorry this one will miss a fine education and experience at ND. <E>:?</E></r>

    I wonder if his meeting with the academics people didn't go well?

    re: Hayes
    There is another possibility. I've wondered for some time about how Hayes viewed Kelly's recruitment of him. He was the only running back in his class...
    unless Kelly could sign impact freshman Savon Huggins. Any word on Huggins? My suspicion has always been that if Kelly warmed up too much to Huggins that it might cause Hayes to bolt...

    BTW-

    There's still plenty of tickets left for Saturday's Notre Dame-USC game: more than 2,500. Tickets start at $64.00 to sit in the endzone corners and seats as far in as the 20 yard line can be had for $89.00. Top level seats on the 50 yard line can be had as cheap as $150.00, with low level, 50 yard line seats near the Trojan band as cheap as $200.00 up to $700.00 for the best seats in the house. There's a lot of angry Trojan fans and Irish fans for various reasons, so this one may not sell out for the first time in memory...

    I'll have what he's been drinking! However given that we have only exceeded 40 points against MAC opponent WMU, and that we are missing 3 starters all at important positions on offense I don't see that happening . If we are lucky enough to beat USC then it will be because we have played well on defense and kept them in the low twenties for points, our offense might manage high 20's if aided by defensive turnovers that give them short field and our FG kicker continues to be excellent.

    I don't view it as missing three starters. Cierre Wood has been an ample replacement, especially when effectively platooned with Hughes and Gray.

    I like Tyler Eifert every bit as a much as Rudolph and I think he is a better blocker as well as much faster.

    And this team started playing good offensive football when Tommy Rees stepped under center.

    I'm not missing anybody.

    Maybe. But there's no denying this offense runs better with him at the helm. Anyone can see that.

    Come on man, how many TD's did the Rees run offense put up against Army? I know it was a conservative game plan and all but still...it was Army.

    edit:

    I'm just being sort of contrary here, Rees does look better than Crist did in the offense, esp screens and short passes, has a nice touch on fades inside the red zone...well except for the one against Tulsa.

    re: Rees-Lovecchio

    Lovecchio transferred out as soon as he lost his job at practice. Why is it that I have the feeling that Rees will join his brother at UCLA when Andrew Hendrix wins the job during spring ball?

    Well I am sure that somebody will leave next year. No way Kelly can keep 4 QB's happy with their future and playing time.

    Crist will have 2 years remaining and has burned his red shirt so he'd have to go to 1AA inorder to not have to sit out another year and just play 1 more year. He's in the toughest position.

    Rees could transfer and sit out a year and still have 3 to play, Massa and Hendrix could transfer sit a year and still have 3 to play as well.

    It will be interesting how this all works out.

    <r>I agree with George. For some reason Rees looks better so far in this offense than Crist. I was sure Crist could run this offense well but he sure didn't show it. Rees hasn't set the world on fire but just looks more comfortable than Crist. <br/>
    <br/>
    This is going to cause a problem next season and someone or two will probably transfer. Throw in the thought that ND may take a QB in this class after all and well.....who knows.<br/>
    <br/>
    I am looking forward to seeing what all the talk about Hendrix is about. I'm pretty sure he is use to being under center and played in a run oriented offense. <E>8)</E></r>

    Hayes has committed for the second time only this time to Michigan.

    By my calculations in about 9 weeks we will have no recruits left.

    We're not the only school suffering decommits. USC has had some and recruits are deserting Skippy in droves at UCLA. I suggest we stop whining and start raiding like everyone else. Many of the local decommits are winding up at places like Oregon and Boise. Winning counts!

    GOD! I wish Kelly hadn't blown that Tulsa game!

    I've pretty much quietly rooted for Notre Dame since getting to know many of you guys.

    However this week I really want you to run up the score on Kiffy Kakes.

    Go Irish.
