Not the old mulituse fields like 3 Rivers, or the Astrodome, etc. But Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field Next week Illinois/Northwestern play at Wrigley...not really sure why myself and ND plays Army at Yankee stadium. This article shows the fields marked for football. I liked this comment. Yankee Stadium Football layout
I'm sure others here have been to games at baseball stadiums. I actually went to a NY football Giants game with my dad years ago. Seems like they didn't bother doing anything to the infield dirt. That photo of Yankee Stadium looks like a solid playing surface. I also went to an ND game at Cleveland's Municiple Stadium years ago. I also went to a Jets game at St. Louis' Bush Stadium years ago. That I think was a multi-purpose field. Still haven't gotten to see a game at the Coliseum but would like to some day although having seen Olympic events there I know it's probably full a bad sight lines. I've seen a game at Northwestern. Pretty small stadium Wonder if they can get a bigger gate at Wrigley.
yes.. The old BOSTON YANKS ( eventually moved to Baltimore) in the 40s played home hames at Fenway. Boston University with the Late Great Harry Agganis played some games at Fenway
Been to lots of football games at the Astrodome which was of course a multiuse stadium so that the stands were moved on tracks to a football configuration. During baseball season they didn't do anything to the infield, but after the end of baseball they did cover the dirt with more astroturf. Astrodome was a pretty good place to watch a football game. Great place for baseball.
actually the Patriots used Fenway in one of their early years...they also used the Old Boston Braves field for a year or 2
Jif you know what always stands out to me when I watch video of old games from the 40's. How the crowd is mostly men, and how many of them have coat/tie and hat on.
Absolutely T... My dad never went to a Brown game with me withoiut wearing a suit coat and felt hat ...Men never left the house for any event without a felt hat..and women with those little foolish hats...this continued well into the 50s
I saw ND play Syracuse in Yankee Stadium in 1963. Also, the Chicago Bears played their home games in Wrigley Field for many years.
Not only Sid but the tradition continued into my years (much later ) Lots of guys had "dinner jackets" that rivaled Lindsey Nelson in er clutter. Cowboy ties were also popular.
Gip's right. I can recall guys wearing ties and jackets over t-shirts during warm weather. Back then, school started after Labor Day and ended around the first week in June.......or later if you had trouble finding a covered wagon going in the direction of your home town.
I can remember when I was a youngster seeing men at the ballpark wearing short sleeve whiteshirts and ties. Watch the series "When it was a game " if you can find it ( HBO Films ) You see men in nice suits and hats and women wearing dresses and big hats.
Jif did you ever wear a Felt hat with the suit and top coat? If so did you like them, and wish they were still stylish?
