http://cfn.scout.com/2/1018623.html http://college-football-blog.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/25660890 Would I be surprised? Uh......no.
Why am I not surprised that you would love to gloat about this? If it is true then Auburn would be involved and it would reflect on the whole SEC. If so, then so be it, but I hope it isn't even though I think you would like it to be true.
Bill, I may be satisfied by it only from the standpoint that Urban has been criticized for not doing whatever necessary to keep Newton on board at UF. Maybe Urban was making an educated decision.
MCG, I want the same answer that kp wants. For the record for the rest of you, most Gator fans on the Gator Insider board, a lot of who have been over critical of the Gators in general this year, are supportive of Cam. Like me they like him root for him and hope this is not true. Not a small number of them wish he had stayed at Florida and was the Gator QB. Also note that this has been around since July as far as the NCAA having information and someone just now leaked it.
Urban is pretty mum when asked about Newton. I think there was more to it than Cam couldn't see the light because of Tebow. After all.....Tebow is now gone and this is the first year that Newton is playing Qb at Div One level anyway. He was in Urban's doghouse obviously because of the laptop incident but Urban has eventually let others out of that doghouse when they earn their way out. Something happened with this kid that we may not be aware of.
Fox Sports weighs in with a particularly harsh view: http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/dont-vote-for-auburns-cameron-newton-for-heisman-trophy-110410 This should be required reading before further comments. So....after reading I have to say that I do not want to just jump on the bandwagon that carries the lynch mob without further proof. Of course I felt the same way about Reggie Bush and I couldn't understand why it took so long for him to be found out. If I was a Heisman voter who was going to vote for Newton my decision would stand......I would vote for Newton until further proof of impropriety had surfaced.
You think? Nice to know you must have inside information. All that I read during the time Cam was at Florida was that he would be allowed to earn himself back on the team and he and his family decided what was best for him was to transfer. Don't forget that it wasn't just Tebow coming back but Brantley was also in the wings. I'll take the thoughts of the people who were at least somewhat in the know when Newton was in Gainesville over the opinion of a person who for whatever reason decided to trash Cam like you did a couple of weeks ago. I'm not saying he will turn out to be clean or that he will turn out to be dirty. I am saying you don't have any basis for the opinions you have put forth on Newton other than you just want to have them.
Saw him interviewed for the first time a couple of weeks ago and he just came off slightly thuggish. I have seen him since and that attitude was more muted. So.....I don't really know that's for sure. But I am right in that Meyer hasn't said much and he may know more than he let's on about Newton. Then again he may be a model citizen and if so....if he is.....then he should win the Heisman. There is the little matter of the stolen computer episode but kids sometimes will be kids. At least that is what everyone has been saying since he isn't at Florida anymore.
Perception is what is going to work against Newton. The stolen laptop is a real deal. This pay for play may not be......but it may. Without the perception initially created this could be a little easier to dismiss. And I do find it amusing that Newton was a "criminal" when he played for Florida but he's good kid since he is now ex-Gator.
I just want to know if you SEC guys really think this stuff doesn't go on all the time? Just curious thats all..
Hey Doc Texas like Fla. is not having a "normal" year. Have there been any decomits the past month or so as they've been struggling?
No it's really pretty rare for Texas to have a decomit. Not that it doesn't happen, but it's not common. The reason is mainly that nearly 100% of each Texas recruiting class is probably less than 500 miles from Austin, all within the state for the most part. So parents getting to son's games isn't really an issue, and of course while Texas itself is an outstanding school, not quite on the level of ND on the undergraduate level but still very good. However being so large there are plenty of gimmie majors so kids aren't intimidated by Texas academics. Plus there are the coeds, Austin, Bevo, Tex-Mex food, coeds, you get my drift!! So if a kid decommit's like Emanuel Moody or Ryan Perralux it's usually because they think they have a better shot at someplace else, not because academics scare them or distance scares them or it's too cold, etc.
Terry, I think Mack Brown was one of the guys that started a lot of these early commitments and like you say so many of them are from Texas that you have less changing of minds.
I do have to add this, I see 77 was just a drive by shooter with his cheap shot. No follow up, no anything, just a cheap shot. Just had to say it.
