That's the BCS formula!!  1. Oregon! I have no idea if they are the best team in the country, but they are one of the most exciting teams to watch. I loved it that near the end of the 1st half when they have the lead and the ball but deep in their own territory, Herbie and the old dude said most teams would just run out the clock but not Oregon. 32 seconds latter they scored again!! They were going for the score when they got the ball back with 20+ seconds remaining. If injuries don't knock them down or freak upset then I expect them to be in the BCS game. 2. Auburn! Didn't see their game and they weren't playing nearly as dangerous an opponent as Oregon but they also showed that they are about as exciting a team as there is, but a little below Oregon IMHO. For them though there is great danger down the road in Tuscalossa the last game of the regular season. They are IMHO a little less likely to run the the table. 3. TCU and Boise: Both got wins both remain undefeated both also are unlikely, no matter how deserving to make the BCS game unless either Oregon or Auburn lose. TCU has to play Utah next week a very tough game, a Utah win of course eliminates them but I don't believe that Utah even though they are undefeated will be considered for the BCS. I do think think inside track is with Boise State...who if you missed it played a Tues night game this past week...I have no idea why ESPN thinks it's good to have a Tues night game. I think that if Boise State goes undefeated and gets passed over by any 1 loss BCS conference team it's a sham and the whole thing should be boycotted by the public. 4. Mich State and Missouri. I said last week I didn't think either of these Cinderellas would make it through the season undefeated. I didn't however forsee the ass kicking that both recieved. 5. Big 10, I expect that Wisconsin is going to end up winning the B10. They have beaten Iowa and Ohio State and I think MSU will lose another game (bloom off the rose and all). 6. Texas, oh boy some hot times in Austin. Fans are pretty much up in arms, and if they had pitch forks and torches and knew where Greg Davis lived they would be on him like mad villagers on Frankenstein. Will Muschamp would be the next stop and Vlad the Impaler would take care of OL coach Mac McWhorter. Hard to imagine this is what it has come down to, a team that was in the NC game and is loaded with highly ranked players including the 2008 Gatorade Nat'l Player of the year at QB lose to Baylor at home. I think it is very possible that Texas will not win 6 games. I think Kansas State, OK State and Texas A&M all have legit shots at beating the Longhorns. Hell most likely the Longhorns them selves will help beat themselves!! 7. Speaking of Texas A&M, Ryan Tannehill had an incredible game and yo have to assume that is the end for Jerrod Johnson unless it was just some sort of fluke vs Tech. I'm sure Scott can fill us in more, but it looks to me that Tannehill, right now, has a stronger more accurate arm and that is needed to run the Sherman offense. I don't think Johnson ever really recovered from his off season surgery. He hasn't been the same QB. 8. Iowa State won again this weekend...maybe it wasn't an upset! 9. Notre Dame Stadium in the near future will resemble the Yale Bowl on football Saturdays. As a kid I used to go to Rice games in Rice Stadium. Saw Don Meridith play for SMU and other great SWC stars. It sat 70K and was a wonderful facility, didn't sellout every weekend but always had big crowds and sold out for Texas and Texas A&M. It's lucky to entetain 20K fans for a Rice game these days. I hope I'm wrong but it's dark days boys. Here's hoping for a miracle.
 The Rose Bowl could be another great one this year. If Oregon and Auburn run the table, the Rose would get the Big Ten winner vs. Boise State...
....in truth, I'd rather have Oregon. Defense is suspect and I know, when healthy, we can handle their offense. That's not to say that either or both of us will get to the title game, but we know we match up well with them....and, importantly, so do they.
Alabama will put decided heat on Boise if the Tide runs the table......which I think they can do. If they or Boise plays and loses to Oregon then I can see the fans of the one left out in quite a tizzy.....BCS style!
Thanks Terry, I always look forward to your recaps! 1. Oregon is bad@ss! Even when they are screwing up you still have to hang half a hundred on them to have a chance. I think they are a lock for one half of the BCS title game. 2. Auburn is impressive, but the Iron bowl looms. If they get through undefeated, I don't think Boise or TCU would have a gripe against Auburn getting in ahead of them. Not saying they would welcome it, just it would be hard to argue against... 3. TCU and Boise - both on the outside looking in until the undefeateds go down... 4. Mich State and Missouri. I expected both to lose, but thought Mizzou had a shot. I think the Corn have some kind of mind control over the Tiggers... that and Mizzou does still have the Pinkel factor! 5. Big 10 - I have no idea how their tiebreakers work, and this is why I HATE an unbalanced league that doesn't have a champ game. 6. Texas - Yikes. I honestly thought the Orange would come out really pissed, and put Baylor to bed. Baylor's defense is NOT good, so if you can't score on them... Wow. (BTW... if I saw correctly, Ryan T now has more TD's in one and a half games than Gilbert does in 2/3 of a season!) 7. Ryan Tannehill - If there really was a QB controversy, it ended after the kick-off when RT came out with the offense for the first series. He only hit 72% of his passes for 450 yards and 4 TDs. He did throw a pick, but it was not a bad throw just a freakish play by a Tech LB, that I still haven't figured out how he held on. 8. Iowa State - Cyclones are not a terrible team, just not a good one. 9. Notre Dame - Another wow. I thought for sure you guys would spank Tulsa, but losing your QB is never a recipe for success, and like JO'Co said... it's tough to ask your back-up to make a great play, when he really didn't have to. I think Kelly can win there, but it's going to take longer than the ND faithful thought.
I have Auburn and Oregon as number 1 and 2. Co number 1's. But don't overlook Alabama. Auburn still has to play Georgia and Alabama, and Alabama has to play LSU and Auburn. Florida and S. Carolina control their own destiny in the East and Auburn and Alabama control their destiny in the West. LSU is not out of it, but with their loss to Auburn are a long shot.
I can't believe the dire predictions for Notre Dame. At least not yet. Kelly has been successful elsewhere, and one bonehead play doesn't mean it's a trend.
I don't see the SEC East beating the West ( LSU isn't going to win it ). I see the SEC West winner as almost a shoo in for the BCS Title game. ESPN talking heads all agreed......Bama controls it's own destiny to the BCS Title game.
If a once beaten SEC Champ jumps an unbeaten TCU or Boise State then the BCS champ game is a travishamockery and should be boycotted.
Laugh till it hurts BT........ That BCS guru guy they have said the same thing. It's about who you play......and most especially about the last 4 years of SEC dominance in the BCS Title game.
   ....even a homer like you, with your team looking up from the depths, can see how ridiculous that is. Now, do everybody a favor and get off the table......
What is ridiculous about 4 decisive victories in the BCS Title game by one conference? I guess it means nothing to you......so be it. But trust me....it means a helluva lot to those who select the BCS title game participants. 8)
You must be aghast that after 4 BCS championships that a Pac10 team overtook an SEC team for #1. I would assume that in your way of thinking that once an undefeated SEC team reaches #1 that they will stay there till defeated, esp not get passed by a Pac10 team while winning a SEC game. Am I right?
That's absurd....by your logic the Yankees should be in the World Series every year. As a lifelong Yankee fan I think that a fine system....as a fair minded sportsman, it's ridiculous. The Tide do not control their own destiny. The only way they can play in the title game is if those in front of them lose and/or the human voters change their minds from their present views and elevate the Tide above them, in spite of them losing badly to a decent, but very pedestrian SoCar team. I just don't see that happening this year. Bama is 15th in the computer rankings and will not rise above an undefeated TCU/Boise/Utah.....because at the end of the day, what matters most, is what you do when you play, not what you might have if you did......but I will grant you that they have a better shot than your Gators, which I suspect is what this is all about.....
Not in the least about Oregon. Right now I think they will beat anything the SEC throws at them. On the computers.....they discussed it last night on the BCS show and all agree as do I that with MSU, LSU, Auburn and the SEC Title game to finish the season that Alabama is perfectly situated to surpass any team but Oregon that is front of them. "a better shot than your Gators, which I suspect is what this is all about....." .....puleeeeze.....
TOK......decisive. You forgot decisive.....like last years decisive victory over your Longhorns without the services of your best player. Decisive indeed.....
Some gauntlet.....I will give Auburn credit for handling everything that they have encountered to date tho suspect defensively, the rest especially the 2 or 3 or more loss juggernauts that they will face in the SECCG, scare nobody and will provide them no material benefit in the computer rankings..... Bama will not leap over all undefeateds in the computer rankings - they are 15th presently - with a loss to a good but as I said very pedestrian - average computer ranking of 21st - SoCar team. There are other one loss teams from higher rated conferences with "better" losses.....their only hope is if the humans change their mind and give them a pass.
It's all about who Bama plays down the stretch: Current BCS rankings: Auburn #2 LSU #10 MSU #20 and....the real juice at the end.....on a Sat.when no one else is playing except the Big 12...... the SECCG vs. either current # 19 SC or probable top 20 ranked Florida. ( if they get there ) No other top ten BCS team comes close to playing a finishing stretch of that caliber ( BCS rankings .....not subjective Big 10 homer rankings )
.....again you miss the point, BCS rankings ARE subjective in and of themselves......the non-subjective rankings have Bama at #15 with several one loss teams in front of them including two, from a higher ranked conference. This system is a joke.....
