Went to the game.....and doggone it if Meyer wasn't right in his pregame assessment that UF's offense looked good in practice last week because they look like a top ten caliber offense now....or at least they did last night. I still think Bama wins over UF but after their knock down drag out struggle with the Hogs maybe the Gators can hang with the Tide closer than I expected. This Trey Burton kid....who scored a Florida record 6 TDs.....is quite an impressive looking true freshman.
I'm not sure but if JO'Co says so it's good enough for me. Trey Burton has been an unbelievable find so far. Someone posted on GatorCountry that Tim Tebow wears Burton pajamas.
Clay Burton, brother of Trey... http://rivals.yahoo.com/miami/football/recruiting/player-Clay-Burton-104436 http://miami.rivals.com/barrier_noentry.asp?ReturnTo=&sid=&script=content.asp&cid=1112638&fid=&tid=&mid=&rid=
Check out these stats from the true freshman: PLAYER OF THE WEEK ( from CFN ) Florida QB/RB/WR Trey Burton completed a 42-yard pass, ran five times for 40 yards and five touchdowns, and caught five passes for 37 yards and a score in the win over Kentucky. They say on the 42 yard pass play the receiver tripped or would have scored a 70 yard TD. More amazing stuff on this kid: "the freshman from Venice has turned into Florida's most versatile player this season. In three games, Burton has seen time at fullback, tight end, wide receiver, tailback and special teams (kickoff team). He has honed his still evolving skills in those other positions simply by studying during preseason drills. "I learned it all during the quarterback meetings," Burton said. "Playing quarterback, you have to know every position or else you can't play quarterback. All I really needed to know was the technique or how to block somebody, or what foot to step with. So (quarterbacks) Coach (Scot) Loeffler got me right and pretty much taught me everybody's position so far." Wow.....hope he continues to develop.
Ok, I was thinking you were talking about a player already at Notre Dame. Yes Trey has a younger brother and if he is half what Trey is right now you could have a good one. Wonder if the Gators might have some late interest?
From CFN's who's hot top ten: "1. Florida jack-of-all-trades Trey Burton Without much advance warning, a star was born in Gainesville Saturday night. Where were the Gators hiding this rookie when the offense was coughing and wheezing early on? Doing his best Percy impression, Burton completed a 42-yard pass, had five carries for 40 yards and five scores out of the shotgun formation, and caught five balls for 37 yards and another score. A quarterback on the depth chart, his six touchdowns broke a school record set by none other than Tim Tebow." Man....finally....Gator fans have something on offense to get cranked about this season. Chris Rainey who??
Very impressive game from Trey Burton. Were you guys excited to have him in this freshman class or was he overlooked?
Terry, I am not sure if over looked is the right words. I will say no one expected this. There has been quite a bit written about him playing other positions since the season started. I kind of expected it would be a few plays a game. But so far he has played QB, RB, WR, TE and took snaps in the Wildcat formation. I think he is a keeper.
