So we have a way to go, but let's take a looksie at what we have after 2 hands have been placed on the table. -Stanford: Sonnuvabeech... Is Harbaugh really going to win this thing? He is a very good coach, with a very good staff. He's a little thin in terms of depth, but their QB may be the best in the land.... I hope they choke. -Oregon: Lord have mercy they are fast. It use to be that the only thing fast in Oregon was their TB and Belotti's wife... my how times have changed. -Oregon State: Riley is a great coach with a great surrounding cast. They might beat Boise and they may well challenge for the Pac10 title. -California: They have outscored their first 2 opponents 104-10. They look like a well oiled machine... They will choke though... it's Cal.. -Arizona State: They begin the Division 1 portion of their schedule with Wisconsin this week so the fact that they are 2-0 means nothing right now. We'll know more about them next Sunday. -Arizona: The darkhorse pick to win the Pac10.. 2 wins against 2 tomato cans. Their next run is Iowa, Cal and Oregon State... We'll see how good they are real fast. -USC: Still so much talent... Their QB is good, but their lack of discipline will kill them in the end. -UCLA: WTF? No one has suffered more injuries in 2 years than the Slick Rick Bruins, but still...they look bumfuzzled out there. -Washington: Might be a bowl team this year.. might not. We'll see. -Washington State: Jesus guys... You're a Pac10 team and you use to act like one... What happened?
 re: Trojans 22 cheap shot penalties for 250 yards in two games... re: Sun Devils Still the mystery team. On paper they're good, but who knows? re: Stanford They're big, physical and well-coached. Watch out. re: Washington On the rebound and well-coached with an NFL caliber QB. re: Wazzoo Dead as old Marley's ghost...
Arizona still hasn't shown they can run the ball effectively. The H-back, Tutogi, has been recovering from a high ankle sprain and hopefully he'll be able to help create some space against Iowa's defensive line for our little RBs Grigsby and Antolin. We also have a bigger underclassman RB Nwoko whom I hope the coaches will put into the mix. ASU is having more problems with their O-Line again this season. They lost three (?) linemen to graduation and one starter left the team prior to the start of the season due to ongoing injuries. Their fans are still predicting at least an 8-win regular season, though, because they believe new OC Noel Mazzone is their offensive savior. Watch for them to be one of the more penalized teams again this season. I was surprised by Cal's loss to Nevada last night, but not by Riley's pick six. That seems to be a Cal QB trademark over the last several seasons. UCLA has had a ton of OL injuries already this year, too. Their QB, Prince, is getting savaged by opposing defenses on the field, by Neuheisel on the sidelines, and by their fans on the message boards.
Arizona 34 Iowa 27 I watched this game and it wasn't as close as the score indicates. One player for Zona, a kid named Wright (#19) melted down and almost cost his team the game. He had a clipping penalty; a personal foul; a pass interference; then fumbled away a punt; all in the second half after the Wildcats had a big lead. Stoops should have pulled him for the day, but he was melting down too... Arizona is very good. Arizona State 19 Wisconsin 20 The Sun Devils lost on a blocked extra point in a game that was very even. I believe that if this game had been played in the Valley of the Sun, ASU would have won easily. They're very young, with only one senior, but they look fundamentally sound and QB Steven Threet looks like he's found a home. They're at least as good as Wisconsin on a neutral field and they're a young team that's still improving... Stanford 68 Wake Forest 24 Stanford looks like Alabama and head coach Jim Harbaugh and his crew aren't trying to hide it. They're huge, fast and very physical. The TV analysts here last night were predicting that Stanford will attempt to "physically dominate" the Irish in South Bend next week in the same way that they slapped around UCLA, Wake Forest and Sacramento State... USC had another ho-hum victory that made everyone unhappy. They're undefeated, but nobody is smiling in the land of the Kiffinites...
Yeah but according to Kiffin they'll be singin "Fight On" all night long after beatin the Gators......I mean the Ducks...... 8)
It was a tough game for William "Bug" Wright, but he atoned for his earlier mistakes by catching the winning touchdown pass.
Arizona looks fast and physical. Oregon may be the fastest team in the country. USC is unbeaten but still undisciplined. Cal, well I told you, Cal loses games like that and that's why they're Cal. UCLA handled and beat up a fairly decent Houston team... Watching what Stanford did to Wake makes me feel a little bit better about the UCLA game. Right now, Stanford looks to be the best of em at the moment.
Stanford vs Oregon in 2 weeks right? I wonder if the Cardinal will look past ND, I hope so. It might be our only chance against the powerhouse from Palo Alto.
I know the feeling. I'm just hoping Kp's been right all along and the Florida game means nothing to the Tide players in comparison to playing at Arkansas and South Carolina.......
Can you stop being a jack-off and just let a Pac-10 thread be about the Pac-10? As for Stanford, I don't know if this has been posted, but the Tress are marketing a three-game ticket package that consists of a ticket to the USC game and one ticket each to two other games of the purchaser's choice. It's called the "What's your deal?" package after Carroll's exchange with Harbaugh after last year's game. Harbaugh gave it his approval, reasoning that with Carroll gone it wasn't in bad taste. I'd have done it anyway. I wonder if the Stanford band will play "Rocky Top" when Kiffen visits?
No... He can't. As for the Stanford band, they would be missing a good opportunity that they normally don't miss.
Wow, Standford looks GOOD. The PAC-10 is looking a lot tougher now than they were in Week 1. Oregon, Stanford, even UCLA? Uh, don't look past #9, nothing to see down there. Go COUGS!!
Rick, LOL, dammit, I hate Stanford but I have to admit that they are pretty funny. Oregon is the fastest team in the country and it's not close, but they have their hands full as I type this. ps I finished that sentence and Oregon takes the lead 28-24... 10 point lead vanished into thin air in seconds.
The Ducks finally ran away and hid with ASU's turnovers...all seven of them, including 4 interceptions... Ricks's Desert Cats escaped a trap game with Cal at the gun 10-9.
Nice Rick....you di....no I 'll be a little more respectful. My analogy was well intended but I guess it offended. The "dead in the water" comment resonated with me at the time.
