Ass whupping coming up!!!

Harbaugh hates ND and he won't let his players be flat, he want's to put 50+ points on us and humiliate us. He probably can do it. I just hope we don't get Crist hurt in this game. Defense will probably be toast after the 1st qtr. It will be ugly and very hard for Irish fans to accept. Kelly will have his toes to the flames after this game. ND fans are not a patient bunch.

I tell Tennessee fans to remember how long it took us to get where we are today. It will take us a long time to get back to the 1998 level. The right coach will not take 12 years to return to prominence but it probably will take that long or longer to even reach the championship game. The same goes for Notre Dame.

Well... ordinarily I don't have a dog in this fight, but since Luck is my fantasy QB, I have to hope Terry is correct.

    Sorry guys!

Above from an article on ESPN on teams who've done a face plant to start the season. Other teams in the article are Cincy, UNC, VaTech, and UWash

A couple of things I am excited about are Theo Riddicks game vs MSU and seeing if he can continue against a very stout Stanford defense. He made some tough catches, and when he got the ball in space he really showed me he has some electric potential to make some YAC.

Well OK that's just one....I'm worried that might be it.

    Meyer's first year at UF:

7-3 after 10 games with three conference losses and we watched a team we beat play for the SEC title.

Harbaugh wouldn't talk about WR Ryan Whalen one of their best, he was injured in Wake Forrest game. Hope he's at full strenght for the PAC10 season!

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
    Anything your heart desires
    Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream
    No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
    As dreamers do

    Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
    The sweet fulfillment of
    Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
    Your dreams come true

Irish physically dominated by Stanford on both sides of the ball. Our defense isn't very good, Luck doesn't have a stain on his white uniform, absolutely no push from the DL. Plus while they didn't rip off the big run they consistently ran down hill on our defense. Those guys are going to need a lot of ice after that game.

Long way to go for this team that's the reality.

The Irish just played the real best team on their schedule. Please note the Cardinal's utter destruction of UCLA in Los Angeles and what happened to the LHorns today in Austin. This was what Corey and I have been hinting at, but we wanted you to see it for yourself. Unless I'm way off base, Stanford is a match for anybody this year: Ohio State, Alabama...anybody.

PS. Big game this week: Stanford @ Oregon

Oregon has to get out of the Valley of the Sun first...

Still, Stanford is a very, very good football team.

It's hard to watch ND get clocked by the offense that I wish we ran.

The game I am fearing the most is USC. That one has the makings of Jimmy Johnson v Gerry Faust II.

Kiffin is a jerk and he will bury the Irish if we let him.

I was there, which doesn't mean a whole lot. Last night and this morning, I watched the replay with a good friend who is a former FB coach and who has much more insight than I. Most of the observations below are his. Some are mine. Some are a combination.

-I said last week that we had big problems on defense. I was wrong. Our defense played very well yesterday against a very well coached offensive line. Stanford only scored one TD that made our D look bad, the first one. Beyond that, we held them to 4 FGs, one of which they shouldn't have had, the last one in the 1st half. On the second TD, we gave them the ball and the opportunity to close out the game when we failed to convert the 4th and 1 on the 50 (actually, the 3rd and 1 failure was worse). The third TD was scored on the offense. Until we failed on 4th and 1 - instead of punting and trying to maintain field position - we still were in the game.

-While CW may not have been a good head coach and last year's Clausen was better than Crist at this time, Weis as an OC would have called plays which did not expose our O line's weakness in drive blocking and pass protection. Most of the running plays being called yesterday took too long to develop and enabled the Stanford D to out maneuver our blocking. On pass plays, Crist was taking too long to make decisions, which allowed Stanford's D to hurry his throws when he finally decided to let go of the ball, hence many off-target throws.

-Terry, I'm not sure what you mean by Stanford running "downhill" on our defense. I was there and did not see it that way. We were very efffective in plugging up the middle, the "downhill" area. Stanford made its running yards on the outside, same as MSU last week. Our coverage of the outside run is sorely lacking. We must improve in this area of run defense, but our inside running defense was pretty good yesterday. IMO, Teo, Calabrese, and our down linemen played very well.

-In our first 4 games, we played a not-very-good team (Purdue), two very tough teams (UM and MSU), and an extremely good team (Stanford), and we are 1 and 3. We played no patsies like the Big10 teams did yesterday or like the other major conference teams have played. There are several undefeated and 3-1 teams who will lose 3-4 games before the season is over, but those losses will come for them when they play their conference schedules and we are playing the so-called lighter portion of our schedule.

I scoff at those who are ready to pull the plug on Kelly. I have a big probem with his play calling, given the weakneses cited above in our O line, but I also realize that those same plays will work eventually if he is able to accomplish his goals. If not, we'll go throught the fire/hire ritual one more time in 2013 or 2014. Until then, I will live week to week during the college football season, hoping to see improvement each game.
