Pete Fiutak of CFN weighs in on the curious season being had by both Texas and Florida: http://cfn.scout.com/2/1004092.html No matter what happens this season....after reading the article I do feel much better about the near future of the Gators than I do about the imminent prospects of them escaping Tuscaloosa with any piece of their ass left unkicked.
Well one thing in the favor of Texas is that Greg Davis our longtime esteemed OCoord has run a Pro Style offense before, in fact he had to stumble on the Read Option with Vince Young. So he's no doubt more comfortable with the Pro Style game, where as I don't think Urban has ever been associated with a Pro Style offense before in his life and it may be out of his comfort zone. You have to wonder if Cam Newton hadn't been a Thief and been able to stay at UF, would he have been #2 behind Tebow and Brantley #3? He looks like he would be a better fit for the Gators offense than the Auburn Offense, he looks big enough and well suited for the Meyer version of the Spread. Brantley on the other hand looks like he'd be more comfortable in the Auburn version of the spread.
Chances are good that CN would be a big part of the Gator 2010 offense if he hadn't screwed up and got himself removed from the program.
Cam Newton did not get removed from the Gator program. He did have a problem but it was not a big deal and he could have stayed at Florida. However with Tebow coming back he would have been 3rd string behind Tebow and Brantley and Brantley was solid as the backup and future QB. Cam did what was best for him and transferred. But again let me repeat he was not removed from the program.
That is true Bill......my mistake. But he did leave after being suspended by Meyer... "Last November, Newton was arrested for robbery in connection to a laptop that he says he purchased from an anonymous person. Newton then transferred to Blinn College in Texas after Urban Meyer suspended him from the team." http://www.gatortailgating.com/content/rumor-cam-newton-transfer-tennessee
I see that he was cleared of the charges after further research, then in an interview last spring he seems to admit he knew he was buying stolen goods.
