Look at the 2 deep that Urban released. If I count right I see 17 freshmen and oddly enough `1 guy who is backup at 2 positions...Trey Burton QB and TE.

    Gator Depth Chart

Man that is one great freshman class to have that many guys in the 2 deep, also says that there have been some failures in the upper classes inspite of high recruiting rankings.

    Are you Gators suprised?

    Terry,

UF lost five Jrs. to the 2010 NFL draft which is a statement of success rather than failure of those recruiting classes.

Also....a couple of injuries to upper classmen:

"Offensive tackles Matt Patchan (right wrist) and Xavier Nixon (right knee) are out for at least this game, possibly more."

Therefore UF probably is a little light on some experienced players should injuries crop up but also those freshmen listed are supposedly pretty damned good as well so hopefully there is not a lot of fall-off should they have to play.

Don't you SEC teams usually have 35 guys in each freshman class? So 5 guys leaving for the NFL shouldn't be that big a deal.

BTW what are you guys expect to run in short yardage and goal line situations this year without Tebow. He was your guy in those situations, I doubt if Brantley is that same type of runner, so you think you'll actually use a FB? Maybe even some I formation or wishbone? If you go Wildcat who will be the trigger man?

Mostly you will see Emmanuel Moody in short yardage but I also expect Rainey to get it some and possibly Reed the TE.

Moody supposedly has had a great fall and s/b ready to fulfill his potential and subsequently earn a fat NFL paycheck down the road.

I know...a Texas kid swayed by Petey.

But at least he got out before Lane the wonderboy came in.

I think the places where we have freshmen it says more about their ability than we don't have upper class players.

For instance, the two DT's that started for our Championship team in 2008 are still on the team, in backup rolls. Terron Sanders and Lawrence Marsh. Both have had some injuries, but it also the talent ahead of them.

    I am not concerned.

Well, it would be nice to have another "John Brantley" playing behind John Brantley .... but no such luxury in 2010. If JB gets hurt, it's probably a true freshman or the punter  at QB.

Nobody answered my question about the Gators running a Wildcat.

The short-yardage/wildcat QBs will be Jordon Reed and Trey Burton. But, in the red zone and in short yardage, there's a greater likelihood you'll see Brantley under center with Moody, Demps, or Gilleslee at TB. Lead blocker will will TJ Pridemore or Gerald Christian. Also, there's a chance UF will go back to the jet sweep with guys like Deonte Thompson, Andre Debose, Chris Rainey, or Robert Clark.
