He's got a book tour going on, so it's time to air out the laundry!! Turns out that the FSU President who forced him out was one of his players many years ago. Shocking to me, beyond Myron Rolle I didn't know FSU had any players who actually attended class. I do know none of them shot the President and some were subject to the Warsaw rule! Bowden/FSU
He was starting to look a little muddled on the sidelines and clearly did not have a lot to do with "in game" management the last couple of years. I'm sure Ohio State wished they had prodded Woody a little harder before his meltdown. It is widely held that Notre Dame helped Lou find the door. Penn State has been trying to figure out how to jettison JoePa for at least ten years. I'm sure there are a lot more examples out there.
Can't say I disagree with the Bobster .... and that I'm disappointed with how he was treated .... and the subsequent confusuin and controversy it's created. I can only hope it get's worse .... er better .... because the new staff underperforms in the eyes of nolie fans!!
That would have been an almost impossible task.....the teams he led in his last years on the sideline were among the game's elite and the best he ever had and anybody that disputed that Woody was still in charge had clearly taken leave of their senses and did so at their own peril....not so with Joe and Bobby.
yeah things had really declined with Bowden and he just didn't seem to realize it. He apparently just wanted to coach 1 more year, 2010, and then was going to retire. But clearly FSU alums and powerbrokers no longer wanted him even 1 more year and that's where the 2 sides came to disagreement. With JoePa, after he had that streak of bad years awhile ago he seems to have settled down and really the Nits have been an excellent team the last 4 or 5 years. I think when he brought in that old Gator coach and made him the OCoord to go along with Tom Bradley as the DCoord things have been good. I am assuming that he lets the staff run things and just sort of "monitors" stuff, but probably doesn't interfere too much. I wonder who is the real guy in charge though, I'd bet that Tom Bradley is the guy who is in charge or the VP of Operations! With this arrangement JoePa could go on quite awhile I'd bet.
That's quite true and when Florida fans clearly wanted him to stay I think that was the last straw...
BT, The General's problems were more cultural than on the field but the Buckeyes have proven the winning lots of games is no guarantee of tenure 8) Take Earle Bruce and John Cooper: They averaged 9-10 wins per year but because they had problems with UM they were run out.
I know it didn't happen the way he wanted it to, but I hope he gets over it and enjoys his retirement. PJ in Jersey
True that Krebsie, the values of the 70's and Woody just didn't do well together.... Earle actually had a winning record -v- M, but had the charisma of a flounder, had solid teams but really only one team really with national title quality. Poor Coop....had some superb teams, but just couldn't deal with M.....
