This sucks for those kids. There should be some punishment for LSU in this IMHO.

LSU Recruits told no spots for them

Personally I think that if you oversign and then have too many kids and have to dump a couple like LSU did then the NCAA should take away the same number of scholarships from your next years class as the number of kids you screw over.

I agree it hurts the recruits, but I think the practice of over signing is fairly common.

It's more common in the SEC than any other place. And usually it's the result of coaches knowing (or thinking they know) that certain players won't make it so that they will have 25 or less ready to enroll in August.

But it blows up some times and the kid is the one to pay the price, he has to try and find a school who will take him or delay his entry till the winter semester.

It sucks and there should be rules and consequences to oversigning.

But is LSU still going to use some 5th-year seniors? They should be forced to let those kids go to make room for the new students.

Wouldn't really matter in this case. NCAA limit is 25 per class and they have 27, so it can't be rectified by reducing the 5th year sr's.

Wonder where the next top player from Shaw high school will go when he's recruited by LSU?

I think the only way to make this palatable at all would be to be up front with the player when he committed and tell him that he would have to defer his scholarship until January (grayshirt) if it became necessary. Then he could decide to sign the LOI or not. It is unfortunately a common practice that alot of schools participate in. I wish they didn't but they do.

To get all 27 recruits qualified is very unusual.

LSU is not alone in this....add Miami and Alabama to the list. The above link breaks down the numbers game.
I could see signing a couple kids over when you know some don't have the scores to qualify...but these numbers are CRAZY!!!!!!!!! ......and what about next year??

Why don't the schools prequalify the players at the beginning of the recruiting process instead of waiting until the very end? The reason that I ask, is that I've never heard of this happening in the 12Pac...

It seems that the NCAA could even create a central clearing house to prescreen all of the potential players so that non-qualifiers could be eliminated or sent to JCs for remedial schooling...
