I think this is pretty decent.....level headed analysis of where Obama stands with the American public and why. http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/07/19/zelizer.obama.midterm/index.html?hpt=T2 I know I do agree that Americans in general will not embrace Obama until the economy is humming again and people feel secure about their jobs. Interesting question I have is that given the vitriolic and extreme partisan politics going on in Washington you wonder if he does lose the House and Senate in November will anything else be accomplished in what will surely be his only term in the White House?
It's all about the economy. He wasn't elected because Americans desperately wanted his free spending agenda passed. They wanted the economy turned around. They wanted hope and change. All they got was hope.
Americans new realize that Obama was a complete liar. He promised to do away with earmarks yet, they continue at an alarming rate. He promised transparency, that the health care bill debate would be broadcast on CSpan yet the bill was done in the back room, passed in the middle of the night by many lawmakers who hadn't even read the bill. He promised that those making less than $250,000 would not pay any new taxes. Complete ********. But there is more. When Cambridge police arrested a black Harvard professor, they "acted stupidly." In fact the professor went ballistic and he more than anyone acted stupidly. There's specificly targeted taxes such as those who use tanning parlors. And then there's the refusal to prosecute the New Black Panthers for voter intimidation because, they're black and civil rights laws are to punish whites. It took weeks and weeks to decide how many troops to send to Afghanastan. He was completely inert in trying to solve the problems on the Gulf Coast although he actively hindered some cleanup activities and added insult to injury to the Gulf economy by issuing a moritorium against further Gulf drilling. Meanwhile he hasn't a clue as to what to do to fix the economy. He's adept at creating a car czar and a pay czar and passing new regulations as to Wall Street but when it comes to public sector jobs he hasn't a whiff of an idea. The nearly one trillion dollar stimulus plan moved unemployment from 7 to 10%. The guy who wrote that article believes he needs another stimulus plan. WTF? He couldn't get 10% of congress to line up to piss away another trillion or two. The folks in the White House are completely out of touch with most of America. The NYC trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was a dumb, dumb idea. Promising to close Gitmo was a dumb, dumb, idea. And bringing suit against Arizona for their immigration law is close to political suicide. So this CNN writer thinks that the average American is influenced by some deals Obama cut with the pharmacutical industry??? Sure, all the other decisions were just fine.
