.....that this idiot is a Republican: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/18/opinion/18fri3.html .....man....I can't wait to see the Limbaugh twist on this one.
Well I can tell you that this slush fund, as well intentioned as it is and as needed as it is, is likely to be managed with a political bent. That is to punish those who don't support Obama and the Dems when ever possible.
It is a shakedown because of how it was presented. Set aside $20B or we'll take it from you. That's Chicago politics. That is political extortion. That is the Obama way.
I was just a couple of weeks ago that Obama sent Holder down to the Gulf to investigate the institution of criminal charges. Shortly thereafter we have the White House demanding large sums be coughed up for potential claims. This is from the ABA Model Ethics Code "EC 7-21 The civil adjudicative process is primarily designed for the settlement of disputes between parties, while the criminal process is designed for the protection of society as a whole. Threatening to use, or using, the criminal process to coerce adjustment of private civil claims or controversies is a subversion of that process;36 further, the person against whom the criminal process is so misused may be deterred from asserting his legal rights and thus the usefulness of the civil process in settling private disputes is impaired. As in all cases of abuse of judicial process, the improper use of criminal process tends to diminish public confidence in our legal system." What we've seen is the top attorney in the country Attorney General Holder, act unethicly. And when someone questions the tactics he's branded an "idiot." Figures.
Dave, Everybody wants to see BP responsible for all the damage and hardship they caused. But this constant harassment and threatening from the Obama mob only serves to take the focus off where it belongs right now.... stopping the leak. While BP's executives are forced to endure mindless questions from a real group of thieves, who is running the store? Do you not see anything wrong with the federal government's continual taking over of private industry?
George....this is where I differ from you guys. I have seen some very, very bad behavior from private industry in the past few years and that behavior has us mired in the worst recession since the Depression. Remaining on the sidelines and just nodding our head in quiet support of those in industry that will stop at nothing to turn a profit and enhance their own personal fortunes no matter the damages is the thing that I see is the most threatening to our way of life.
So what do you propose George? Our system seems out of control because of a few bad apples and yet that seems to be the prevailing mentality today.
