I agree with the basic tone of this article: http://cfn.scout.com/2/972439.html I think RR coming in from the outside to a program who has had insiders for 40 years was an impossible task.
It'll be interesting to see if the NCAA accepts these as the final punishment or adds to it. I'm not exactly sure about the 130 hrs deal, it seems like maybe those can be manipulated over the 2 years that make their impact less. We'll see.
Oh yeah, and the grad assistant Alex Herron who made the clerical errors must have been confused when he lied to the NCAA during their investigation. That's why the school threw him under the bus.
rr <t>Terry,<br/> <br/> I'm in the "adding to it" camp. Nothing personal, it's just about Michigan.</t>
With regards to the asst that got fired, I remember when Tom Penders was at UT and in his last year a highly recruited player and he were not getting along he was going to transfer. Somehow his grades were released to a local radio station and of course that caused a big uproar. The asst took the fall for releasing the grades. He has later said that he did it with the knowledge and approval of Penders and that Penders told him he'd be taken care of...of course he wasn't taken care of and worked as a used car salesman and to this day has never gotten another job in coaching. He's pretty bitter. Maybe the UM asst lied to the NCAA all on his own or was told to be the point man in trying to cover it up. He's likely screwed though.
Another base hit for good ol MCG.... : http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/13434769/hot-seat-rankings-rich-rod-facing-doordie-season-in-michigan?tag=coverlist_footer;coverlist_photo_content
Well it goes without saying that he's on the hot seat. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. That would have been like saying Weis was on a hot seat going into the 2009 season, it was obvious.
No less difficult than determining that Lane Kiffin was an unaccomplished asshole......or that Bama-Fla is a pretty damned big game nationally this year. But hey....when I think of it the only reason is because Bama finally started being Bama the last couple of years under Saban.
Let's see now 1. He was sued by WVa. for breaching his contract with them and it was settled for millions. 2. He was also sued by investors in a real estate deal he was involved with. 3. When he left WVa. he destroyed fitness records of the Mountaineer players in spite or to cover up. 4. After 2 years, he has M on probation for the first time. Geez they just don't get more "decent" that that.
