First mag of the season checks in with no surprise Alabama at #1 and Florida in a spot that is actually quite probable at #5. http://www.lindyssports.com/article.php?cn=1783
I think this may be the year that a non-BCS conference team gets into the NC game. Boise State has a lot of starters back, could go undefeated and if they do they could most definitely hold on to that #2 spot or higher.
It may be up to Va Tech to keep them out of the game. But....starting so high this year....which they will.....exerts a different kind of pressure that maybe they are not used to dealing with successfully.
They also play Oregon State in Sept. Win both those games and they will be solidly in 2nd place. If Alabama were to stumble along the way, it will be interesting to see if one of the unbeatens from a BCS conference will leapfrog them into 1st place.
Yeah, what happens if Alabama (or Florida), Boise State, Ohio State and Texas are all undefeated at the end of the year. I'll wager that if BSU is not in the BCS championship game Corey joins the Tea Party????
It will be ticklish to say the least. Undefeated teams that rise to #1 tend to stay at #1 till they are defeated. It's classical Newtonian mechanics, teams at rest at #1 tend to stay at rest at #1. Of course Lindy's is hardly the definitive poll and if Boise starts the season at say #5, they will have a hard time jumping to #1 or #2.
Terry, Agreed. So many bounces have to go your way to be undefeated and reach the BCSCG that even I would bet the field today.
Now KP, you know as well as I do that the winner of the Ala/FL game must be one of the BCSNCG represenatives...right Dave?
The issue will be can a undefeated Boise State make it to the NC game over a 1 loss SEC champion? Right now everybody seems to concede 1 spot in the NC game to the SEC champion if they have 1 or 0 losses. Ohio State certainly has a chance to run the table this year, as does Texas or OU, and toss Boise State into the mix and it will get dicey. The key factor is that in years past Boise State has started low and had to work their way up, but this year they will clearly start high, but I don't think as high as Lindy's has them. At least not in the AP and Coaches polls, I wouldn't be suprised to see them top 5, but not #2. From their I things will depend on teams ahead of them losing a game, which is likely to happen. Multiple unbeaten teams just don't happen every year. I will say that if an unbeaten Boise State does get into the NC game, it will be controversial and commissioners of the BCS conferences will not be happy.
If Boise is unbeaten they will play a one loss SEC Champion in my opinion. I just don't see another major conference unbeaten. But....if so......Boise gets in over the SEC because of voter sentiment. Boise gets crushed in the title game either way unless they are playing a faux unbeaten with many holes in their resume.......in which case back to the SEC one loss champion instead hopefully.
Well maybe so, but I can tell you that if Texas or OU finish unbeaten and don't get into the NC game over a 1 loss SEC team there will be blood spilled.
The Big 12 has had the benefit of the doubt two years running and came away empty. That may play in to it but if one of those teams has a strong season without many obvious chinks it's Big 12-Boise if both are unbeaten. Then......Boise gets crushed and everyone says what about that SEC one loss champion who should have been there.
"That USC is paying Lane K. that much." ah....that is truly unbelievable. This guy has magically created one helluva job situation for himself over the past several years and made a crap load of money doing it without winning diddly. It is hard to fathom.
Well one thing we know for sure, he can recruit as well as anybody in the country. He got Tenn into the top 10 after he was hired, which is saying quite a bit given the way things ended for Fulmer. He had Tenn headed to a terrific recruit class when he bailed for USC and he took what Pete had going for them and made it even better. He ended up with the #1 class with only 20 recruits. Amazing job. So far though he hasn't been a coach any place long enough to prove that he is truly one of the best head coaches out there.
