MCG, This is your MO. You started out by saying that the UF/UA game was the biggest game of Alabama's season. Bigger than Auburn. Then as your contention becomes less and less defensible you start backing off. Take your statement above, the last part of that sentence is going to be true. There will be a ton of hype for the UF/UA game, so in that sense ole MCG will be right, but there will also be a ton of hype about the OKlahoma/Texas game and the Ohio State/Mich game, and the Penn State/Alabama game and the oh well you get my point. I am not saying that the Florida/Alabama game is not a very big game, but there are a lot of very big games and more germaine to where this discussion started the Auburn/Alabama game is more important to Alabama fans. Not just this year but every year! And as to Auburn fans watching, they might, but if Alabama wins they will deny seeing a single play and if Alabama loses they will all swear that they didn't watch it but that it was obvious all along that Alabama was overrated. "The eagle flies and dies but the Tide rolls on forever"
Kp.....I don't expect that the Florida game is bigger than Auburn is for Bama fans. And there is a very good reason.......not only are they an in-state rival but also they are a key SEC West opponent. Losing to Fla is recoverable.....losing to Auburn could cost a title. Same for UF vs. Tenn ( in many years ) and vs. Ga, But this year.....on a national scale.....the Bama-UF game is much bigger than it normally would have been because the two teams are 51-4 between them with two national titles over the past two seasons. Those other games you mention are top games for 2010......but this year this one is right up there and my point has been that this fact isn't lost on the Tide fans.
Back to Stub Hub: Three biggest games on the Bama slate are PSU, Fla and Aub with the Fla game holding a slight edge in median ticket price. http://www.stubhub.com/alabama-football-tickets/ Texas-OU checks in at a price that is slightly lower but maybe there are more seats available: http://www.stubhub.com/search/doSearch?searchStr=red+river+rivalry&pageNumber=1&resultsPerPage=50&searchMode=event&start=0&rows=50 And although a cheaper ticket can be had than those above the priciest premium seat is for USC-ND. http://www.stubhub.com/usc-football-tickets/ Can you imagine the price if USC were at ND....with fewer seats available? Or......how about LK and the Trogs at Knoxville???
Can you imagine the price if ND had actually been a top 10 team for the last 10 years instead of what we were? Back in the good old days, a ND/USC game was impossible to get tickets for and always the highest rated game on TV for the year. In fact I believe that ND was involved in at least 3 of the highest rated regular season TV games of all-time. Now to be fair those top 5 games are all pre-current TV contracts where you have 30 games on to chose from.
Found an article on the possibility of LK and USC vs. Tenn: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/390098-usc-and-tennessee-the-game-waiting-to-happen Man....that would be like watching a mammoth trainwreck... Heck.....even Auburn and Bama fans may take a break from Bama-Arkansas and Aub-Ole Miss to catch this one as long it was the 2nd game of a CBS double-header. 8)
