They are few and far between in todays specialization of sports. Most kids play 1 sport, a few can play 2 sports but you have to be at a pretty small school to play 3 sports these days and play them at a high level. This kid is one of the top QB's in the Country, one of the top High School Baseball pitchers in the country and a pretty darn good basketball player as well. Who want's him? Well Neb does, so does ND, amongst more than a few others. What's the risk? Well a lot of kids like him who are 2 sport stars and get drafted in the 1st round of the MLB draft like he might go ahead and take the bonus money and go to baseball. Joe Mauer did, one of the Booty kids did, Alex Rodriguez did, Chris Wenke did, Quan Crosby did, there are lots of them that did, some make it and some don't. After their 1st contract runs out kids like Wenke, Booty, and Crosby come back to college football to see if they can restart football careers. Bottom line is you can have a 5* QB in FEB and be excited and by the time August rolls around he's playing baseball in the minor leagues and you no longer have the crown jewel of your recruiting class. Nice problem for the kid, but not so much for the school. Kelly supposedly has had the talk with Bubba that if he were to verbal to ND and eventually sign a LOI that he wants the young mans promise that he will not sign a MLB contract. Of course he can't hold the kid to that promise but if the kid and the parents have any sort of honor they will keep the promise or say they can't and go with another school who isn't as insistant that he make that promise. FWIW it seems like these types of kids always end up at Stanford where they have a decent football program and a history of excellent QB's to go along with an outstanding baseball program. A redneck from Alabama walked into a bank in New York City and asked for the loan officer. He told the loan officer that he was going to Paris for an international redneck festival for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000 and that he was not a depositor of the bank. The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan, so the Redneck handed over the keys to a new Ferrari. The car was parked on the street in front of the bank. The Redneck produced the title and everything checked out. The loan officer agreed to hold the car as collateral for the loan and apologized for having to charge 12% interest. Later, the bank's president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the Redneck from the south for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral for a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the bank's private underground garage and parked it. Two weeks later, the Redneck returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest of $23.07. The loan officer said, 'Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out on Dunn & Bradstreet and found that you are a Distinguished Alumni from the University of Alabama , a highly sophisticated investor and Multi-Millionaire with real estate and financial interests all over the world. Your investments include a large number of wind turbines around Sweetwater , Texas . What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000? The good 'ole Alabama boy replied, Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $23.07 and expect it to be there when I return? His name was BUBBA
