Well this year is turning out to be a little different. It used to be that you could pretty much get 90% of your picks correct just by picking the higher seeded team. But there are more upsets this year than I can remember. Texas A&M a 2 seed went down to Gonzaga last night. and 4 or 5 lower seeded teams won in the round of 64. While there is still a wide gulf between UConn and the rest of the ladies basketball world the rest seem to be closer than ever.
Will do Mr. Baker. Jets and Colts Ali and Foreman USA and Russia Royals and Cardinals ND and FSU Gator Bowl
Huskers and Irish are in the same Region so they could play each other for the right to go to the Final Four.
Irish make it through to the Sweet 16, most likely opponent will be Oklahoma a team they beat in a preseason tournament.
CornChicks roll UCLA like a cheap Taco....oh wait, we've already had that argument......NU Women must be Butter, cause they're sure on a Roll......that's better....
Skylar Diggins was a one man show for ND in the first half last night. She almost singlehandedly took them from a 10 point deficit to a lead at halftime. For the night she scored 31 points and ND won by almost 20. And she's only a freshman.
Skylar was, I think, the National HS Player of the year last year. Much is expected of her and she has had a great freshman year. Skylar is one of 3 ND players to be in the running for the Coaches Womens Basketball AA team (10 players). UConn also has 3 players on the list and Tenn has 2 players. They cut the current list of 53 to 40 this week. State Farm Coaches AA Team
Well neither the Irish nor the Cornhuskers will be in the Regional Finals. Irish were nipped in OT by OU and Neb was beaten by Kentucky. I watched the ND/OU game and the OU center who happens to be the daughter of Akeem Oljuwan was outstanding. She is a big lady, not so much height but bulk and she was in position to get a lot of rebounds and put backs. That and one of their guards had the best night of her career from the 3pt line. I have to say, aknowledging that the womens game is different, that it's hard for me to watch the women play. I've never seen so many drives to the basket hit the bottom of the rim. They just don't have the speed, the leaping ability and size that you get used to watching the men. The inside players seem to me to have to be able to really spin the ball off the backboard to get their points as they can't go up and jam it. But it's all an excercise to crown UConn as the greatest womens team ever.
I understand, Terry. If you saw them in person, you might enjoy their play more, although certainly not as much as the men. I attend one ND womens game each season as the guest of a friend who has season tickets. It's a much slower game athletically than the men, but the "stars" like Skylar Diggins for ND are something to behold. I still wouldn't buy season tickets - there are always seats available, although ND's average attendance is pretty good - but if I lived near the campus, I'd probably attend 3-5 games each season because of the relatively high level of play.
I watched a lot of the Stanford/Xavier game including the final 5 minutes. That was one of the worst choke jobs I've ever seen. With time running out and the game tied, Xavier missed two, yes two not one, chippies plus the front end of a 1 and 1 by their best free throw shooter. The chippies were so wide open, I mean no Stanford player was even close to the Xavier girl under the basket and she couldn't make either one. Then to make it worse with 4.4 seconds left they allowed a Stanford girl to go coast to coast for a layup. Those Xavier girls and their coach have to be kicking themselves today. Good thing is that I believe that the entire Xavier starting 5 will be back next year, so they should be excellent again.
UConn beat their Elite 8 opponent, Fla. State, by 40 points last night. Didn't even look like they broke a sweat.
Womens game tonight. Stanford no doubt is a better team than they were when UConn beat them earlier in the year and the girl from Houston put in 38 points the other night, she's a better player in a lot of ways than Griner was for Baylor. I expect a close game, but UConn to win in the end.
Wow, last nights mens championship was one of the most exciting games in a final ever. Tonights womens final is one of the worst games I've ever seen in a womens final 4, UConn is just horrible and Stanford is only marginally better. 12 freakin' points in the first half, that is just unbelieveable.
Well all's well that ends well. UConn found their shot and rolled Stanford in the 2nd half. 78-0, back to back NC's. quite an accomplishment. They showed the 2010-11 non-conf schedule and they play every good team out there except Tenn in non-conf, it is unlikely that they will get to 88 to tie UCLA. Congrats to UConn.
