(AP) - Tennessee coach Derek Dooley says running back Bryce Brown has left the Volunteers' program. Dooley says Brown told him Thursday, the first day of the Vols' spring practice, that he was dealing with personal and family problems. Brown was not present for practice. The Wichita, native averaged 38.3 yards in 12 games as a freshman in 2009. Brown was one of the top recruits in the nation in 2009, and the NCAA investigated whether money was improperly raised for Brown to visit colleges while in high school. Neither Brown nor Tennessee, who was not recruiting him at the time, were punished. Dooley says Brown will remain enrolled at Tennessee for the rest of the spring semester. He did not indicate if he would then transfer elsewhere.
This is going to sound like sour grapes. However, if that guy doesn't want to give his all for the Orange... he can hit the road walking. I have had all I can take from idiots that think it is all about them... not the team.
Both the Brown kids were highly recruited, both of them had a handler and both of them have left the programs they originally signed with....karma's a bitch isn't it. I think what we are seeing here is 2 kids who from the time they became highly recruited athletes they were handled like they were already NFL stars, I remember reading how they were interviewing coaches and things had to be to their liking. Not that they shouldn't look closely at schools, but they went beyond that and wanted coaches to kiss their asses and build the programs around them. That's what makes me like a kid like Clausen, he had all the recruiting hype but he came in took his lumps as a freshman, worked hard and got better. Didn't complain, just kept his head down and worked hard.
Probably going to be a tough year for Vol football. But I think Dooley deserves a chance to see what he can do so I think he will get miles of slack given to him this first year. I am glad this kid didn't pull a Gator helmet out of his bag. I don't think I would want a player at Florida who thinks so highly of Lane Kiffin that he signed to play for him instead of being sold by the program. In other words....there are still recruits from last year at Tenn that I am sure were sold on UT.....and not LK. If the latter is true of any of them then look out. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see this kid transfer to USC......
What... <t>A head case. Phil Steele was discussing him on Rivals radio this AM. Guy could of been the guy this year and now has to transfer and sit a year. I'm guessing he ends up at Kansas.</t>
Sounds like he had some curious reasons as to why he signed with Tenn and you wonder if Dooley is referring to Kiffin somehow.
