No.....but many a dispersion was cast toward the Buckeyes the year after they lost to Florida when they sort of slid their way into the BCS title game based mostly on rep.
Gipper.....if ND is ever 12-0 and #2 ranked.....check that......if ND is ever 12-0 period I'll guarantee you the Irish would be in the BCS title game.
That's a different situation getting to the BCS Title game vs getting a BCS bid. Nobody questions OSU getting the bid, they won the Big 10 fair and square. And certainly the 2007 game was odd given that the WVA was all but there, except they forgot to win their last game vs a medicore Pitt squad and lost the bid. Heck was there ever a team that deserved being in the game less than LSU that year? Didn't they lose the last game of the regular season? Didn't they lose 2 regular season games? That they beat OSU didn't mean they deserved to be there, just that on that day they were the better team. But that was an odd BCS title game.
I thought LSU dominated that game. Fact is....that season OSU's body of work to get there was in question. Simply winning the Big Ten has proven not to mean so much.
What about a 2 loss LSU team said BCS title game? They won the SEC against a 4 loss Tenn team. Again it's not about the outcome once the match is made.
2007 was an odd year for the BCS to be sure. I just took offense mostly with the OSU viewpoint that they were some sort of a great team just because they made the BCS title game. I didn't think they were great before playing LSU and they certainly didn't convince me any further after playing LSU. That started all the national talk about how they needed to do well vs. USC the next season and we all know how that turned out.
But they get into the BCS regardless of record or poll ranking. Only one team has to be ranked at a certain level to get into the BCS and yet, there are those that bitch about it. Spare me please.
I'll go back to what I said earlier about ND. Brian Kelly is one of those guys that does more with less. Give him something to work with and he should excel. I think ND will be completely earning BCS bids before too long and..... .....I think ND wins a national title in the next 3-4 years tops.
You seem to be focusing on the outcome to determine who was worthy or who wasn't. While at the same time assuming that the SEC champ no matter what the outcome is a deserving team.
I would say not.....if a 2 loss LSU would have lost to an OSU team that I didn't feel was all that strong of a team then I would have been saying the contrary....that the SEC caught a break and LSU shouldn't have been in the game. Frankly I didn't think LSU was all that good that year....which underscores even more what I thought about OSU and the Big Ten in 2007. Of course....I caught hell here for saying what my true thoughts were.....but that's life on the Skybox for ya....
I don't remember you questioning the validity of the LSU inclusion in the game inspite of their 2 loss season. That's my point. All of your criticisms are based on the outcome, which can't be known at the time of the selection. Fla whupped up on Ohio STate in 2006 but that doesn't mean that OSU was a bad selection for the game or didn't deserved to be in the game. Heck some Super Bowls end up being blowouts and those participants are determined solely on the field.
That's because I thought LSU would beat the Bucks soundly....which they did. I think it should have been W Va vs. OSU anyway based on the BCS criteria......but W Va screwed the pooch.
