John McCain is not president and never should be. Did you hear Obama rebut one of McCain's statements with this bitch slap: "We're not campaigning any more John. The election's over " McCain's response? He giggled and said " I'm reminded of that everyday" He should have demanded an apology and a modicum of respect. Instead he got his nose rubbed into the carpet.
McCain and Palin both were poor choices, and the continued fascination with Palin just boggles my mind. Nothing was accomplished yesterday. We will now get to see if the Pres, Pelosi and Reid can ram their vision of healthcare reform down our throats.
Although I'm not sure anyone can truly know what's in 2700 friggin pages worth of reform can you guys tell me the highlights of what is bad about this bill? Spare no punches but base your answer on truth and specifics......not rhetoric. I just haven't paid close enough attention to it to know what those specifics are.
Anybody ever read the "Common Ground" column in USA Today? Thought this was pretty good yesterday; http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2010/02/column-what-if-we-had-a-clean-slate-on-health-care-.html#more
She's a fascinating and attention-getting public figure, but no one with a brain takes her seriously as a presidential candidate. IMO her future success will be as a political commentator for Fox. She certainly can fire up the emotions of a certain minority element of the conservative movement, as she did at the Tea Party convention, but I can't imagine that she appeals in the same way to the broader spectrum of the Republican party.
Healthcare reform: Dave, we cannot afford it. It is a $1trillion dollar "fix" and as we all know government cost estimates are almost always on the light side. We already have accumulated so much debt that most experts think we will not be able to keep pace with the interest alone. Why not attack this problem piecemeal..... start with mandating that HI can purchased across state lines. Watch the prices drop then. Then continue with meaningful tort reform... cap damages. Again, watch the prices drop. Palin: She is fun to look at but she has ridden her convention speech as far as it will take her. She really is nothing more than a mouthpiece who spouts bullet points. She doesn't appear to be particularly intelligent or up to date on world affairs. When she quit her governorship in mid term that was an alarm to all that she is not serious. With all that said, the liberal attacks on her and her family are beneath contempt.
Good article Stu... If selling insurance across state lines would drop the cost of insurance then it's a no brainer.....why not do it. On the other hand.....what some of these companies offer amounts to a scam....their coverages are elusive and unclear and laws should be set in place that make the insurers spell out more specifically what it is they are offering....what exclusions they may have and what limitations. I tried to buy insurance last fall to plug a gap my family had between jobs and it was extremely difficult to sort through the crap that was out there and I wound up just wasting about $380.00
I didn't know that people on the far right were attacking Palin and her family. If you want to participate in the conversation, understand the context.
Dave, Start making sense. Do you want a serious conversation or do you expect the rest of us to be the Ed McMahon to your Carson? You asked questions and asked for answers. Just don't waste our time. When did competition not drive down prices? And at the height of the "right" bashing of Bill Clinton they never went after Chelsea. Making fun of children, even handicapped ones, is the entirely the specialty of the liberal left.
Make sense? We can debate all day about who is more mean spirited btw the right and the left and trust me......it's a tie. On the insurance issue I have no doubt that real competition will mean lower prices. I am just suggesting we need to have a set of rules that keep apples to apples and oranges to oranges for those of us who do not work in the health insurance industry. They explain what they are offering in purposely misleading and vague terms so as to confuse at every opportunity.
Making sense.... explain to me what the right has done that is more low down than mocking a teenage unwed mother or an infant with Down's Syndrome?
I have to agree with George. Both ends of the spectrum have their foibles, but the left is in a (low) class by itself when it comes to being mean spirited, as demonstrated so clearly in their on-the-record comments about the Palin family.
If you're talking about "Family Guy" as representing the left as some sort of a "spokesperson" then Rush Slimebaugh must be the next GOP nominee for President. Come on man....
Family Guy? That's a cartoon. How about David Letterman, Bill Mahr, Joy Behar, Rosie O'Donnell, Jeanine Garofalo and on and on. They have all taken really despicable shots at Palin's daughter and Down Syndrome baby. Stop jerking us around.
:? regarding the orginal stmnt about campaining,,, a comment like that from obama .. is like the pan calling the kettle black.. they only thing the man does is campaign ,,, doesnt have an orginal thght in his head.... maybe someone should remind obama ...that he is no longer campaigning,,, tired of him already..... bring on the elections... and dave before you get started just take the loss take it off your tax's (you can do that you know) Joco took a 100,000 loss on the sale of his parents home when they passed away ... we have been able to take this loss on our tax's ... we did what we had to do and jim still hasnt complained about it... its just what it is you should be greatful you have a job... your wife is an rn here in Ca that means work... and her choice of money as well as facilities... and now you live in a warm place not shoveling snow...
...amen to that except it has been the coldest winter here in over 30 years......but still......very warm to me. 8) I am intrigued by the idea of taking a loss on the house but I bought it in 1992.....and I am likely to get somewhere around what I paid for it then....18 years ago. Where would the loss come in......off of what value?
Nevada leads the nation in homes "under water"; homes whose outstanding mortgages are higher than its value with 70% of total houses. Florida is second with 48%.
Dave, Check with your accountant about all the money you spent on the house since you bought it which is eligible to be added to your cost basis. You would be amazed at the expenditures which can be included in your basis. For example, if you paid $100,000 and you have another $50,000 of qualified "basis" expenditures, your cost basis for tax purposes is $150,000. If you sell for $100,000, you have a taxable loss of $50,000. I'm not an accountant and am not qualified to say more than what I've already said for the purpose of illustration. Check with a qualified professional.
