Interesting site dedicated to the common practice of signing more than than the NCAA limit of recruits annually, primarily in the SEC.

I guess the first recruits to be jettisoned are the ones who can't read and write. They get warehoused at some JUCO halfway house or sent back home to momma.

That's one of the few true statements this guy makes.

I follow Florida recruiting very closely as you might guess and UF has almost all of it's signing class academically cleared and ready to play by fall practice every year so I don't understand how UF makes the list.

Maybe it has something to do with the large amount of Juniors UF loses annually to the NFL draft but you can't blame Florida for recruiting athletes good enough to run for those riches. Otherwise.....due to depth issues some guys transfer sometimes because they give up the battle and there a few others who fall by the discipline sword for misbehaving.

To me.....signing guys you know don't have much chance to actually get in school is the crux of an "oversigning" problem and UF does not make a habit of that like for example FSU has done over the past few years.

I like to describe things in the way that I know best. I will compare Nick's recruiting policy to Florida and to a slightly lesser extent, Tennessee by using gun terminology. Nick uses a shotgun to get as many recruits in one attempt as possible while Urban employs a more selective approach by using a rifle. Obviously, the methods used by both coaches work well for their programs.

I don't know who this site belongs to or what conference he follows. However what MCG said above is absolutely right about the Gators. Almost every year our whole class gets in school. When a player doesn't make it they typically make it the next year.

Players who have committed to Florida but are not likely to qualify are not signed to a LOI. That's a fact and for this guy to list us as one of the three major offenders shows a complete lack of either knowledge or fact checking or even more like exposes an agenda on his part.

Over the last four years the Gators have lost at least 11 juniors to the NFL draft, and that's just off the top of my head, there are possibly more. In addition there are at least five 4 or 5 star players who left the program due to academics, disciplinary reasons or playing time.

If you start your article saying the Gators are among the three worst in the SEC, which in this guys mind is the worst conference, and either ignore what I said above, or worse yet ignore them, then you don't have much credibility.

Of course not having much credibility doesn't mean he won't find a following.

    Tom has it right also.

As the beacon on the hill, now all the Big 10 (and all of the other Virtuous Ones) has to do is figure out, how to beat the SEC. Players leave early for a variety of reasons, refilling those ranks is a necessity. Alabama was on sanctions and it decimated our overall numbers, that had to be overcome as well in those 2 or 3 seasons after the NCAA sanctions were lifted, but hey if you're explaining your losing, so I'll quit. Let's see how many of this class at Alabama don't qualify academically. We know that at least 11 did qualify as they graduated high school early and are enrolled at Alabama already. :)

I just wanted to keep folks updated on how a school may have room to place some of the oversigned classes. Grant has had a rash of injuries the last 2 years and is apparently eligible for a medical scholarship if he desires to pursue a post-graduate degree. Alabama now has less than 85 on scholarship. I don't know all of the machinations of getting players into these slots, but with walk-ons, grayshirts, and transfers I think that is how it is done.
