Look at their schedule last year: (16) Oregon W 19-8 -- Miami (OH) W 48-0 -- at Fresno State W 51-34 -- at Bowling Green W 49-14 -- California-Davis W 34-16 -- at Tulsa W 28-21 -- at Hawaii W 54-9 -- San Jose State W 45-7 -- at Louisiana Tech W 45-35 -- Idaho W 63-25 at Utah State W 52-21 -- Nevada W 44-33 -- New Mexico State W 42-7 -- Really now......these guys would never again sniff the BCS if they were in the SEC.
What did I miss? Is Boise moving their Campus? Did they get a better and bigger facility offer? Talk to me...
They are going to play Virgina Tech Labor Day night. I will be very interested as to how they make out in that game. When they opened against Georgia a few years ago Georgia won big.
They would have finished no worse than 2nd in either division of the SEC this year. Flip the argument. You take this stand that the SEC is so deep and vaunted. Aside from the top two teams you have: East Tennessee, a team that just got swept in back to back years by UCLA. A team that has been beaten by Wyoming and struggled with Ohio. Georgia-an athletic team with no discipline or defensive scheme. They are about the equivalent of Arizona State (who they fought a knock down drag out brawl with earlier this past season between the hedges). Kentucky-blah Vandy-horsesh*t West Auburn-HAHAHA Auburn is at their best when they try to play with speed. That's a suckers game against Boise. Broncos by 3 TDs. Miss State- decent scheme in a transition year. 1 good TB, and Boise showed they could stop much better than that. LSU-Million dollar talent, ten cent coach. Their OC would talk Balloon head into 4 or 5 double reverse passes and take them out of the game...plus, no real QB talent. Ole Miss- yawn... Arkansas-Another team that tries to play at speed but relies heavy on their QB. The Broncos could handle that easy. Now if you wanna talk UF or Bama.. now you're talking. The Broncos play with tremendous team speed but they are light in the ass. The teams that they would be vulnerable to would be the team patient enough to keep knocking heads 3 yards at a time on offense AND have the defense to make it stick. You had exactly 2 of those teams. Florida and Alabama. By my count, unless they played BOTH divisional champions and got a miracle upset in there somewhere.. they'd be absolutely no worse than a 3 loss team in your 'super' conference.
But something else that you forget... if they play in the SEC, that brings SEC level recruiting... That would cure their 'light in the ass' problem in time. They have some open dates, give em a call. They beat Oregon in back to back years... Who in your conference could do that? Not saying it could be done, but your conference champion can't play everyone and you seem to prop your top 1 or 2 up as a representative body for the entire conference. You've had some great, deep years in the SEC. However, it isn't the annual slug fest that it is made out to be. What makes SEC football so great is the passion the fans and programs take to the sport. if you give Boise that same access, you open Pandora's Box.
Auburn puts speed on defense as well. Not saying they were the best team but coming off say.....an away game at Bama it's just the kind of team that can knock you off the next week. The SEC is a grind. No time to rest in the SEC....no Hawaii's, LaTech's etc on the SEC slate.
Bill, But again... you are wanting to dismiss them in one game But you are not willing to hand over the keys to them if they win that game. You can't have it both ways. Dave, I saw Auburn's 'speedy' defense. It wasn't all that fast at all.
I'm not trying to have it any way Corey, I just want to see how they make out against Va Tech. I'm not on a crusade but I don't think they have played that tough of a schedule and I want to see how it goes on opening day against Va Tech.
again, flip the argument and you see where you fall on your face: Florida opened the season with Charleston Southern, Troy, a very mediocre Tennessee team (no offense Tom, Cindy, Aquila) and Kentucky... You talk about there being 'no rest' in the SEC.. ****, you weren't even awake until October when LSU came calling. Some years, the SEC is a gauntlet...others, not. You're human just like everyone else. Of course, when you're playing Charleston Southern... I can see where you might believe you can't be beat. God bless Alabama
How would USC, Texas, OU, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, do if they had to play a tough SEC schedule??? Kiss those undefeated seasons good bye...SEC is just another division of the NFL!!
Don't understand your point Terry......those guys play in major conferences week in/week out.....and they get their share of BCS opps and I have no beef with those teams most years.....unles of course they are annointed before the season and haven't done much to merit that coronation......no names please...... Boise is very relevant now because I have seen some comments that they may start out top 3 next year and sail to to the title game........if they manage to beat VaTech. I say they have all summer to gear up for that one but I would like to see them play LSU, Ga, Tenn, Aub etc. the very next week instead of Hawaii or LaTech, etc. Think about it......last year Georgia had to play at LSU the very week before playing Florida......an extremely tough task.
Dang Corey, you take this stuff and yourself way to seriously. If you are referring to me as to falling on my face then so be it. My point is simple, before I anoint Boise State I want to see how they make out against some tougher teams when both have about the same thing on the line. That will be true to start next season when they play Virginia Tech. I will have that game on because I am interested, because I enjoy watching Boise State and because it is a great game to start the season.
I actually think it's good to have some cinderella's in College football. It is too bad that TCU and Boise State had to play each other. I think it would have been more interesting to have had them each play a BCS conference team. I really don't want Boise to have some powerhouse schedule. Terry
Bill, 1. I don't take it seriously. 2. I was talking to Dave. It's his overall point that Boise would tank in the SEC. That position is not held in fact and there is no solid watermark on the field to indicate his point is even remotely valid. Tom, You got one heckuva coach there. Boise's D was always very fast and physical.
Ok Corey you don't take it serious. According to what you mean by tank. In my opinion they would not compete for the conference championship on a regular basis, but they would probably be middle of the pack. Which ain't all bad with our tv dollars that are coming in.
