He said what! <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> The last two days, in classic gambit of misdirection( ie. distract attention from the Senate loss and the end of HC reform in its current form, Obama has been talking of levying punitive taxes against the banks and other financial institutions.<br/> <br/> The results?<br/> <br/> Dow is down 400 points in the last 48 hours</r>
So Dave, a year or so ago you said something similar to what Obama has now said. So I guess that your opinion plus Obama's opinion now amounts to the truth? George, so Obama has added almost as much to the Natiional Debt that was added in 8 years under Bush? And this is the party that for the last 8 years tried to convience us they were the most fiscal responsiible? What a joke. Joke is the worng word of couse as it's not funny.
Definitely not funny. Not now....not in the last 2 years...... And whoever contributed to the mess is not funny either.
Bill, Obama has re-written the "book" when it comes to running up debt. he has already taken us to levels never before reached in history and the interest alone on this debit will guarantee its climb to higher and higher levels. He has exascerbated a national security calamity started back in the Clinton era and continued by Bush by borrowing extensively from China. And his answer to pay all this back? Tax the American people, the very victims of this recklessness. I've outlined my only ideas for reversing this course which include an extreme across the board isolationism on many fronts. Haiti reminds us just how completely dependent most of the world is on US largesse as we have committed more to this disaster than all others combined. Do we have the fiscal and emotional strength to make those kind of cuts? If anyone else has any ideas I would love to hear them.
Your isolationist views sound good to me but other than that we seem to be at a dangerous impasse as a country.....almost a gunless civil war if you will. There are only two major political partys and both have so many self-interests in mind neither can do what is right for all Americans.
George, where have you spelled out your ideas? I would like to read them again. Yeah, if we don't do something about the debt collapse is a realistic situation and I find that scary. I also find it scary that this Health Care bill was presented as saving money. No how, no way.
Bill, On a couple of occasions I have suggested that I would do the following: Immediate stoppage of all foreign aid for two years. At that time applications would be considered only if they are submitted with a verifiable anti-terrorist policy in place. Closure of most if not all of our overseas bases. They are not needed in an age of satellite surveillance and nuclear subs. All overeas personnel can be used to lock down our borders. Immediate moratorium on all immigration. Pass a balanced budget amendment immediately. Two term limit on all congressmen. Across the board tax cuts. Assessment of all departments in the federal government with the intent of closing at least 10% of them. There's more but you get the idea. I think those measures could get us back to even in five years or less.
I want to say something about term limits. I was all for them. Here in Michigan we adopted it. From the people I know that work often in the state capitol, we have a lot of folks up there that have no idea of how to write laws or worse, the impact that some proposed legislation would have. There is no real leadership in the houses since membership turns over so often. I know many people who were for term limitations that now think that the remedy was worse than the problem. A term limited lawmaker is thinking of what he's going to do when his term is over. He's likely to listen to special interests who have some security for him when he's out. Just something to think about.
