My agent came in yesterday to prep me for the worst come May... an increase in premiums of between 31-43%.

As thing stand right now, I won't be able to swallow this. I pay about 80% of the premiums right now and pass the balance on to my employees. With declining top end revenues for three years running now I have already squeezed all the non-essential expenditures out of the budget.

He also predicted that there will be no private carriers in 3-4 years..... by government design.

    Then this headline from Obama...

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama signaled to House Democratic leaders Wednesday that they'll have to drop their opposition to taxing high-end health insurance plans to pay for health coverage for millions of uninsured Americans.

I currently have two sons.....one 24 and one who is 21 that are both uninsured.

I am paying for two places to live plus health insurance for me, my wife and 12 year old. I cannot buy these older kids health insurance at hundreds of dollars per month.

Neither one can afford it either as one is a broke....sometimes musician and the other is newly married and both he and his new wife are in school scraping by with part-time no insurance jobs.

Even if you have insurance the out of pocket has gone haywire. Had to get a refill on a script for my wife the other day and it was $75.00 out of pocket to me even with an insurance card.

    You got any suggestions?

    I sure do. Cut expenses!

Get out of Afghanistan. It is unwinnable.
Get out of Iraq. Whenever we leave it will crumble within a year anyway.
Close all foreign bases that are anything but vital to national security.
    Stop all foreign aid.
Pass a balanced budget amendment immediately.
Put a immediate moratorium on all immigration in to the US.
Stop providing benefits or services to anyone who is not a US citizen.

I'm sure I could think of more but with those changes every US citizen could have health insurance and we could clean up most of othr problems in short order.

Krebs, it would be a step in the right direction to be sure..Toss in a bit of tort reform and eliminate some massive government expenditures (ala 'war on drugs', or 'war of alcohol' or 'war on whatever') and the next thing you know.... we can actually afford to send our kids to college again.

War on Drugs is a complete waste of money. With search and seizure and criminal profiling taboo almost everywhere thanks to the ACLU it is meaningless. Most cops think pot should be legalized, sold at "state" staores and taxed.

My son pulled over a 20 year old Saudi in full Muslim head dress last Sunday morning traveling alone on the NJ TP on his way to NYC, for speeding. He had a Saudi passport and license. He was unable to produce one contact name in NYC nor identify one landmark even though his official reason for leaving Virginia in the middle of the night for his trip was "sightseeing". DMV had nothing on him. My son reported all the information to the FBI, who thanked him, gave the guy a ticket and sent him on his way. The laws I referenced above prohibited my son from searching his car or person so he may have had a trunk full of TNT for all we know. The important thing is that we did not infringe on a foreigners rights to travel uninhibited

Can you imagine the revenues generated from taxing legal pot and from saving law enforcement expenditures trying to enforce the laws against it we now have.

It would be a huge double whammy of cash infusion into Gov't. coffers.

I couldn't imagine any of this ever getting done however as right wing conservatives would make life miserable for any lawmaker supporting such intelligent platforms.
