Terry, I expect Meyer to be back when the season starts. I don't really agree with all you said though. I think Meyer can set the parameters and leave it to others to execute. Set the big picture and leave the details to others for now. As to Texas in the championship game I give them a good chance. Seems to me I heard when they played S. Cal they didn't have much chance, but they won.
For the Gators.. well done and a nice write off to the careers of Tebow (truly one of the great kids ever to play the game, let alone talents to play the game) and potentially Meyer. I had turned the game off to play the ps3 but my phone blew up near the end of the game.. I guess the commentators said something to the effect of... this Florida class is the winning-est class in the history of the SEC. I'm still literally getting text messages right now .. 'Did you hear that bullsh*t?!?!' LOL its kinda funny... But it reminded me of Bill pointing out the other day.. that the media creates these controversies and false realities, and I happen to agree with him.. and the media is right (partially) in this case. But thank God I pay for unlimited texting or I'd be billing Fox this morning. I didn't catch exactly what was said.. but it appeared to fire up the ole Bama nation.
Corey I believe they are talking about the 2 SEC and National Titles from Tebow's entering class in addition to total wins. I wonder what 4 year SEC class has beat that? This win for Fla was a nice way to end the season and their careers and I do think it helps to diffuse just a smidgeon their inability to finish the deal in Atlanta. An interesting vote will be after Bama dispatches Texas for the SEC's 4th straight NC who will be the #2 ranked team? I'll give Fla a shot at that.....even over the TCU-BSU winner I also give Texas no chance against the Tide because I am buying into the theory that everyone here wants to trot out there that Florida was hitting on all cylinders vs. Bama......Dunlap missing wasn't important......and Bama crushed the Gator team that I saw last night in the Sugar Bowl. Texas does not have a prayer in this game.
It's simple what they were talking about and no caveats necessary. The four year record for this Gator team is 48- 7 which is apparently the most wins over a four year period ever in the SEC. Of course with the more games played now that may be broken quickly. For instance if Bama wins Thursday they would be 26 - 2 over the last two years so have a very good chance of exceeding that record. As would the Gators who are 26 - 2 over the last two seasons. But that is what they meant and it's pretty black and white.
Oh, Corey I still feel the same way about the media. Kind of like the person at work who creates a problem then leaps forward to have a solution and be a hero. I have always watched ESPN on game days. Yesterday because of all the crap being thrown Meyer's way for being human I did not. I watched 3 games and am watching a Clint Eastwood western tonight. I do expect to watch the next three BCS games though. As to the vote, I think Hawaii and Cinci are about equal. Both of them had the bad luck to tie up with teams that had something to prove in Georgia and Florida. A couple of others caught teams that were playing out the string. Frankly I am pretty much like Terry and don't think there would be much in the way of surprises, as far as the final winner, if we had a playoff.
I look for this Alabama-Texas game to be a relatively low scoring defensive battle. I am not sure that there should be a "real" favorite. Texas survived a very tough conference schedule as did Alabama. I am really looking forward to a good NC game.
I understand George, I was just making sure that what the announcers said last night was just simply won and lost. And I am not onboard with MCG about the Bama game with the Gators and am of the opinion that Texas has a good chance. My experience/opinion after watching football for many years is that you have to be careful with comparable scores. This game stands on it's own and I believe Texas gets as much talent as anyone on a year by year basis. They have a good coach and probably some pent up hostility as to the way things played out last year. The Bama team needs to show up ready to play like they played the Gators or the SEC streak could come to a screeching halt. I'm looking forward to that game.
Ok don't shoot the messenger Dave and Bill but Bama has you trumped. In fact, they have multiple classes. What is disingenuous about the Fox claim is that it really doesn't take into account that we play more games today than classes did before. I believe Alabama has had multiple classes that lost only 4 games in 4 years. Tim Tebow's class lost 4 games in their sophomore season alone. Alabama has classes that have never NOT won the SEC title. I believe Florida has exactly one of those and it isn't the Tebow class. They won 5 in a row. Bear Bryant's class of 64 won two NCs and two SEC titles. They also lost 4 games in 4 years. Alabama class of 65 lost 5 games, won 2 NCs Alabama class of 74 lost 5 games, won 3 SEC titles and an NC. Alabama class of 75 lost 5 games, 4 SEC titles and an NC. One could suggest that this class is clearly this class better: Alabama class of 66 lost 4 games in 4 years. 3 SEC Championships and the they had the infamous 66 undefeated team that lost out on the NC to ND. They even managed to go unbeaten, something Urban Meyer... Tebow and Florida have NEVER done. This is the stuff that makes people hate a great kid like Tebow... What Florida accomplished is wonderful. It IS greatness. Let it stand on it's own!! If it is truly great, you don't need something to prop it up...
Anyone ... <t>That knocks Tebow as a person and his GREAT career as a Gator is beyond help yet I heard a couple on the radio while walking this afternoon. I dismiss them out of hand.<br/> Bill congrats on a great game and season and to make your weekend even better did you catch the Under Armor game today and the absolute stud Easley that was named the game MVP from Staten Island, NY of all places? Great looking young prospect and its guys like this that allow programs like Florida to reload year after year.</t>
George....I am making no excuses here. I am saying that if the Florida team that pummeled Cincinatti last night was the same team....with the same chemistry....same effort as the one that Alabama easily handled on Dec. 5th then I just can't see how Texas can have a chance vs. a juggernaut like that. About the same chance as UF had vs. Nebraska in 1995 or as Nebraska had vs. Miami in 2001. In other words.....not much of a chance. As a side note George I have read many comments like this one from CFN.....as I am sure you have too if you have read any accounts of the Sugar Bowl: " Florida is the No. 2 team in America. If this team showed up against Alabama, it might be a whole different story." But....they didn't.....Bama did....and the rest is history. Actually I am proving a point here. Do I really think Texas has no chance? Well....actually I do think that if Florida really did bring all they had vs. Bama but were just outmanned that badly. In that case...Texas should pack it in and hope for short game. But....you know what I think. I think about that Tenn-Bama game.....that Auburn-Bama game and I think Bama is vulnerable.....can be beat and Florida's defensive playmakers did NOT show up vs. Bama. I think Texas will be the highly motivated team and Bama will be the possibly overconfident team. It should be a very...very close game.
Corey, argue with Dave if you want, all I did was explain what they meant. And unless you can find a case where someone won more than 48 games in 4 years then what was said was not wrong. It did not take into consideration less games true, but then you are changing the subject and all I did was tell you what they were talking about. Two things about your above quote Corey. First no one knocked Bear Bryant, they simply made a true statement about how many games were won in a four year period. You seem to have a thing when anything that might compliment the Gators you have to find a way to knock it. And for you to call those announcers last night disingenuous for simply making a comment about a Gator accomplishments, then to continue to support Finebum who is about as disingenuous as they come, is, in my opinion, disingenuous on your part.
Thanks Larry, for the defense of Tebow. I don't get it either. I didn't watch the UA game but do know about Easley and the Gators needed some good news with a lot the bad news we have gotten in the last few weeks. But I am optimistic that we hold our class and continue to be a factor in the SEC. Your nice comments are appreciated.
How about a plug for the ND class of 1949 who when they finished their careers had never lost in their four years and had 3 concensus national championships?
Bill, I'm with ya, I'm not arguing. What I am saying is that their statement is disingenuous at best. You just witnessed and lived thru one of the great all-time runs in the SEC and in all of college football. They don't need to make up stats to try to establish it as something so superior to all others. The fact remains that the teams can only play the # of games that are on their schedule. To suggest, or even hint, that this class was better than some of those Bama classes just doesn't pass the sniff test. Why can't it be enough to simply say that they are all great and really proving who is #1 over history is just a silly exercise in statistical manipulation. Besides, every time you guys in the SEC make a claim that Alabama can refute, they claim another national title
Great run gipper and I doubt anyone will take issue with it or find a way to put it down like Corey does. Kp, 26, that's a bunch. Corey, read what I said about disingenuous above.
Corey.....I believe they said that this Gator class has won more games than any class in SEC history. Even if they were talking winning percentage this class would be right up there but maybe not at the very top. I'll give Bama fans another thing to think about. To win all of those games in this era you have to win 9 or at least play in 9 SEC Games.....including the best team from the other division in a CG. In this era of big time money spread out amongst conference members which enables them to develop their programs and also especially in this era of reduced scholarship numbers the talent level throughout the conference is considerable by comparison to Bear's era. Alabama was able to hoard the talent in Bear's heyday on a 90 plus deep roster.
KP, I agree--I read that Bama is a 4 point favorite, but if I was a betting man I wouldn't give 4 to the Horns--the only way I would put money on a game like this would be if it were even. Just a guess, but I'm looking for either Maze or Richardson to have a solid game for them.... RTR!
