Shocking developement for sure, I remember something about a brain cyst recently causing him some problems. Where will the Gators go from here?
Just heard from an employee about Urban, here is the statement... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4772952
A while back Finebaum had mentioned that Meyer was so consumed by his job and burned both ends of the candle that he had 'stomach and perhaps blood pressure issues'... That was back during the 'he's leaving UF to go to ND thing'.. At the time I thought it possible. I have a good friend who basically stopped coaching due to Chron's Disease. The stress and strain of coaching made his situation worse no matter how much diet regulation he endured.. so he took more meds.. the meds actually made the stress situation worse.. The guy worked himself into a heart condition by the time he was 30. This might be something like that.
I... <t>Have to believe he will do what Manginie needs to do that being take a year and get your health under control and Florida names an interim guy for a year. I cannot imagine UM walking away from one of the best one or two jobs in college football unless he just has to.<br/> <br/> Lets hope for the best for him.</t>
I just got home and heard this. I can't get on GatorCountry to see if I can find out more. It does seem he is staying at Florida in some capacity. I had heard about the brain cyst, but not the heart muscle. I do know he was in the hospital after the Alabama game and has apparently been back several times since. I am of course sick about this, but my main concern is that he is ok.
In related news: Local news tickers report something about a Starkville, MS man winning the Florida lottery.. Any idea who it was?
I just saw a report from a Fla newspaper that claimed that Urban had a heart attack during the season. The whole thing is just unbelieveable, Urban was at that top of his game, he currently has the #1 recruiting class and the Gators were certainly going to start the season in the top 5 most likely next year. The game of college football is lesser for him not being back at UF. I hope that he is able to recover his health and that he can return to coaching should he desire to do so in the future. If not I'm sure he'll be a success at what ever he decides to pursue. Bill, I'm sure Gator fans have already decided on who they want on the short list for Foley to interview for the job. Who are they? Will UF make runs at Stoops and Gruden again?
I didn't hear about him having a heart attack and am not sure that is true. As far as replacements I'm sure Gruden and Stoops would be on the list but I wouldn't expect we get either one. One name that might be from out of the blue is Mike Shanahan, he's current'y unemployed and has some pretty strong ties to Florida. Other than that I've heard Petterson, Patterson, Petrino, Harbarauh (I'm sure I blew that spelling) and I've also heard Spurrier mentioned. Of course all those are by internet posters for whatever that is worth. I still haven't been able to get on GatorCounrty to see what they have to say. I'm stunned, shocked, upset and concerned for the coach. I hope that heart attack report isn't true. Thanks for your concern.
I hadn't seen that Terry. I will wait to hear more sources on that one before I accept it. However I cannot say it didn't happen. He was in th hospital for chest pains after the Alabama game.
meyer <t>I may not like him but just the same, I wish him and his family the best. I hope it is something he can overcome.</t>
