This game is one of the ones that we CAN get to. Va Tech will be a formidable opponent. I hope the defense is healthy by then. We suffered a lot of injuries in the last few games. If we get there healthy, we could be partying in the streets of Atlanta. Our last few appearances have been less than spectacular with opponents we should have beaten. I think Lane and Monte will have the team mentally focused and a let down will be less likely.

This game should be physical if nothing else. Should be fun to watch for some hat poppin excitement.

Can't wait for this game...My brother is a Tenn grad and his wife is a VT grad. They live in VT country. Sorry, but hope VT wins so my brother's wife wears her VT mascot costume for when he comes home. He is going to the game without her. Will be fun.

After Kiffin's dig vs. Meyer on ESPN Gameday about Bama having better coaches this will be the only SEC game in which I do not support the conference. That guy has decided that Urban stands in his way to greatness and the way to get past him is to rankle him every chance he gets.

It looks like Lane boy has solidified his position as public enemy #1 with Florida fans......and probably Meyer as well.

Actually Tom I think that's a good thing that he keeps himself on Meyer's mind.

I would hate to see him sneakily fly under the radar and pull a fast one on Urban next season.

Obviously that's not going to ever be a problem is it?

Lane isn't taking the timid approach of sneaking in somewhere in a trojan horse. He his taking the "Charge with bugals blasting" approach. He may not win them all at first but he will take his share and his share will grow each year!

Sounds good in premise Tom....but that's what Irish fans thought about Charlie at first.

Next year should tell a tale as both Bama and Fla visit Knoxville.

I might add that I am as much of a "glass is half-full" type guy as anyone but Tenn was within an OT whisker of going to a bowl with a .500 record. In Chollie's first year at ND he went to the BCS so understandable if the Irish fans were a bit optimistic although I never thought they realistically took the whole picture into account.....including the bowl losses.

Crow all you want to Dave. The more you crow the more I will enjoy watching you eat that crow. I'm not saying we will be there next year. Then again, we might. As long as Lane shows improvement in the recruits (already happened) and improvement in the results (already happened in wins and losses as well as improved play from a QB that failed the three years before), I am a happy camper.

We Tennessee fans suffered through the Smart a$$ed comments of Spurrier for years with a coach that took the timid approach. We now have one just like him (willing to throw the barbs and learning the way to do it) and the gators can't stand it. I LIKE IT!!!

I am patient. I am willing to give Lane the time to work his plan. My patience scares you it does. You know that sooner or later the gators will once again be meat on my grill.

I was more of a Yoda and a original Star Wars trilogy fan tht the later series of films. I didn't care much for Jar Jar from Nabu (I think it was).

......heck we're bound to lose to Georgia, Vandy, SC and Kentucky one day too but none of that has been happening either.

Now.....if Tenn moved to the SEC West......

This should be a pretty decent game. I hope the SEC keeps up the good work over the ACC this season.

Tom, I am going. Three of my friends from my high school days (one a Virginia Tech alum) and I will be driving down the day of the game.

In the area where I live this game could not be any bigger. Bruton Smith (racetrack mogul) once offered each team $20 million to play a game at 160K seat Bristol Motor Speedway. I call it the imaginary rivalry because the game is only played out in the imaginations of fans. In this area where Virginia and Tennessee meet, fans banter back and forth all year about who would win this game. My direct supervisor and I have argued all season about what the outcome of this game would be. Needless to say, someone is going to be miserable after the New Year.

That said, I have seen both teams play several times this season. It's difficult to tell much about Virginia Tech. They have had times when they have looked dominant this year and others where they have sputtered. Their offense is mostly quite vanilla and is wildly inconsistent. However, Ryan Williams, their RB and ACC rookie of the year, is a next level type talent who is a threat everytime he touches the football. As usual, their defense is as good as anybody's because they are always very well prepared on that side of the ball by their DC, Bud Foster. They don't always have the caliber of athletes that the SEC teams have but they are always ready for game time. And, the potential difference maker in this game, IMO, could be the special teams. Tech is famous for their special teams and they're always dangerous in that facet of the game. Tennessee has been horrendous this year in that area and couuld be even worse since the ST coordinator, Eddie Gran, is rumored to be leaving for FSU. Because of that fact, and the fact that VT is ranked #14 in the nation, they should be favored. However, judging the ACC by what the other middle of the road SEC teams have done to them this season, I like Tennessee's chances....
