Looks like it's a done deal:

I really think FSU could be on the cusp of disaster here if Fisher isn't a stand-up stud of a coach. Too bad......
    :p :D

FSU's days as a major power are over. (and have been for a while)
The ACC is weak, but still much better than it was when FSU could do no wrong.

It's going to take someone with a lot more flash than Jimbo has to restart that engine.

    They won't be missed...

I have a lot of agreement with you Scott.

This whole situation has been poorly handled. First Bowden should have retired several years ago.

Second, as long as they let it go this year then why not let it go one more year?

No skin off my back though.

I tell you what makes me mad!!! :x I was looking forward to the Gator bowl but Bobby's decision has changed that.....

Bowden's retirement could affect UM's bowl plans

With Bobby Bowden headed out the door at Florida State, Canes fans were probably thinking this would help UM out in some form or fashion. Maybe not.

The Florida Times-Union reported Tuesday afternoon that the Gator Bowl, which chooses third among ACC teams, has decided it wants Bowden's 6-6 Seminoles to take on West Virginia (the team he coached prior to FSU) in the Jan. 1 Bowl game in Jacksonville. So, how does that affect the 9-3 Canes?

It means they'll likely slip down the bowl pecking order, which begins with the Orange Bowl (which takes the ACC Champion) and Chick-Fil-A Bowl (which is likely to take Virginia Tech). That means whoever loses the ACC Championship game -- Clemson or Georgia Tech -- would likely go to the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando. That leaves UM, North Carolina and Boston College available for the Music City Bowl (rumored to be taking Kentucky), Meineke Car Care Bowl (which will likely take Pittsburgh or Rutgers) or the Emerald Bowl (unlikely considering UM played there last year).

As a longtime observer of Bowden at FSU and even though I reviled him most of the time I am glad to see the Gator Bowl take this action to have Bobby coach in the state of Florida in his last game.

It took a Gator to make this happen....as the Prez of the GB is a Gator I understand.

    So be it.

The college football world already handed him a NC that he didn't earn, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me that they'd move heaven and earth to jam up a more deserving Miami team (that beat FSU) so St Bobby can have another day in the sun.

I hope this cheating bastard gets beat by 40

I do have to say that Bobby Bowden really did have a great career. He single handely built that FSU program. When he first started and FSU was just another program, he did some bold scheduling to get them on the map. He went to Lincoln, he went to Ann Arbor, he went to South Bend and never asked for a return trip to FSU. He went anywhere and everywhere and played a very tough schedule. His run of top 5 finishes and bowl wins were amazing.

While I do think his '93 NC is tarnished, his '99 championship was legit and he played for several other BCS titles (lost to OU and Tenn in BCS champ games).

If it weren't for those wide right FG's against Miami, he'd have a few more NC's most likely.

In his prime he put together a great staff and they recruited like bandits. Mickey Andrews defenses were fast and tough, in fact I'll bet FSU produced more NFL 1st rounders on defense than they did on offense.

In his prime and Steve Spurriers prime at UF I believe he had a significant advantage over SOS, probably beat him at the Swamp more than any other coach during that era.

Like a lot of "Stars" he stayed too long, he no longer had the staff he had in his prime, he fell in the trap of hiring his son and then not realizing his son was not up to the job and kept him way too long.

Bobbah Bowden I salute you!! You rascal! :)

....and Columbus....and won in all of those places with lesser players.

I have tremendous respect for the coach that he was in those days.

I'm not sure they were lesser players, back in those days people didn't realize the level of talent that existed in Fla. Now they do so if you are a good Fla player the services are going to rank you highly, not sure it was that way back then.

What a sad day for the Florida prison system. They lost their pipeline to new inmates.
