7:30 p.m. central time is tip off for the title game of the Paradise Jam. Should be a good game between 3-0 Purdue and 4-0 Tennessee.
We have 2 minutes left but the Tennessee players are forcing shots and missing free throws. Right now, it is Purdue's game to lose.
Congrats to Purdue. We had a chance in the closing seconds but Chism went for 3 when a 2 would have won it. I don't understand that shot. Purdue wins by one, 73 to 72
Tom, Followed the conclusion of the game on game tracker (CBS). That must have been an enjoyable game to watch. Both teams appeared to be very evenly matched. Don
Couldn't get it on Fox Sports Net because of a local hockey game...but got to watch the end on an obscure Fox College Sports Pacific channel. Tom...I thought that was a good shot at the end...they were working hard for an open good percentage shot and pretty much got it...just bricked it a bit. Chism had been hitting those, and since both our centers had fouled out he had the smaller Hummel guarding him. Tenn tried to drive the ball inside, got stopped, and kicked it outside for the shot. The whole end of the game was a bit sloppy for both teams...Purdue couldn't get the ball into the hands of an upperclassman after Tenn's last bucket and Tenn. wisely fouled a freshman...he bricked both (after Purdue had gone 18-23 in free throws for the game.) What was up with Bruce Pearl?...man, he was really going off...started pointing at Matt Painter and yelling...Matt yells back to him "I didn't say a word!"...I got the idea he was complaining about Painter working the officials or something after Painter called a time out when Hummel was scrambling on the floor with the ball...I think it was an issue of whether Purdue had possesion when Painter called the timeout. Replay showed he did have possesion...man, was Pearl hot....Painter got a little pissed, too...thought we might see a coach's fight.
That is Pearl's style. When he "thinks" his players have been wronged (and they were not this time as you pointed out) he will go to bat and it usually fires up the Tennessee team. It did just that last night. We were, I think, 6 points down at that point and the guys clawed their way back.
They certainly did claw their way back...was quite a game. Was proud of our guys for just hanging on with both centers out.
Speaking of Matt Painter, there is a funny Subway commercial running on Indiana TV stations with Jared, Matt Painter and Tom Crean. Painter and Crean compare their favorite Subway sandwiches, which, as expected, leads to a light-hearted argument. It's no Bobby Knight/Gene Keady, but it's mildly funny. I'm guessing that Subway is doing the same thing in other states with in-state rival coaches.
Painter has really got Purdue back on track in basketball doesn't he. I wonder how the IU/Purdue recruiting wars will work out between Crean/Painter.
