Every AP National Champion in the last 30 years has been an assistant at one of these schools, with 2 exceptions. Who are those 2? Alabama Florida Florida State Georgia Michigan Nebraska Notre Dame Ohio State Oklahoma Penn State Tennessee
Of course Lou was an assistant at Ohio State. From wiki on Bowden. I never knew he coached at FSU or that he ever worked with Parcells and Gibbs. Bil Peterson I remember, he was at one time the Oilers coach and was a wacko.
I'm out of my league on this one but I'll wager a guess and risk looking clueless.... Pete Carroll and Larry Coker
I think I've got it now after doing some research...Interesting! I thought about one of the guys but for some reason the other didn't occur to me.
I thought Steve Spurrier, but he was an assistant at Florida, he was let go when Charlie Pell came in.
I think Bobda wins. Bobby Ross had worked as an assistant at William and Mary, Rice and Maryland before becoming the HC at the Citadel. He left W&M for the Kansas City Chiefs as an assistant and returned to college as the HC at Maryland then moved to Ga. Tech where he won the NC. As far as Lavelle Edwards, I actually can't find anything that said what he did before becoming the HC at BYU. This is the most I could find.
Link to list national champions since the 1930s. Tech did win the coaches but not the AP poll so Ross is out. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/2554072
Dennis Erickson...is the other guy. I'm pretty sure Tressel was on the Ohio State staff at one time in his career.
