How about Lou Holtz and Bobby Bowden?

Of course Lou was an assistant at Ohio State.

    From wiki on Bowden.
I never knew he coached at FSU or that he ever worked with Parcells and Gibbs. Bil Peterson I remember, he was at one time the Oilers coach and was a wacko.

I'm out of my league on this one but I'll wager a guess and risk looking clueless....

I think Bobda wins. Bobby Ross had worked as an assistant at William and Mary, Rice and Maryland before becoming the HC at the Citadel. He left W&M for the Kansas City Chiefs as an assistant and returned to college as the HC at Maryland then moved to Ga. Tech where he won the NC.

As far as Lavelle Edwards, I actually can't find anything that said what he did before becoming the HC at BYU.

This is the most I could find.

I don't think Bobby Ross won the AP championship. I think Ga. Tech won the coaches poll.

Link to list national champions since the 1930s.

Tech did win the coaches but not the AP poll so Ross is out.

    Dennis Erickson...is the other guy.

I'm pretty sure Tressel was on the Ohio State staff at one time in his career.
