    That would be a shocking developement if Bob Stoops actually was serious about the job. I mean in the past his name has come up with any number of big jobs from ND to Fla, but he always stayed at OU and got a big raise and contract extension.

    Ferentz is an interesting name. He's done a good job at Iowa, had some ups and downs but has done more with less. He's also had a spate of off the field problems and some pretty down years. But they play tough hard nosed football. My problem with him is that he left Iowa in the lurch a few years ago at a critical point in recruiting while he pursued an NFL job, that never materialized. Who ever comes I want him to think of the ND job as his last job not as a stepping stone to the NFL or some other place.

    According to what I heard, Stoops and Ferentz were on the "short list" not leading candidates. I doubt either one is. As far as CW being "released" already...well that may be in Swarbrick's mind but I doubt also that he actually said that. <br/>
    <br/>
    This "he said, she said, they heard, sources said" is going to be all over the map the next few weeks. Most of it will more rumor than fact. <br/>
    <br/>
    Personally, we don't need Ferentz. That's not the home run were looking for. Just my opinion. <E>8)</E></r>

    I hope the news on Gruden puts an end to the endless rumors we would have had to listen to over the next few weeks about him coming to ND. <br/>
    <br/>
    He does seems to enjoy what he is doing with ESPN now though. Personally, he can stay there. Just my opinion.</t>

    Well Jeff Jeffers on radio today in South Bend that the decision on Charlie has not been made and that if he finishes 8-4 he will be retained.

    So the irony of this situation is that UConn led by former Weis reject Zach Frazier will come to ND stadium this saturday. Given our record of making average QB's look great, you can bet the farm that Frazier will torch the Irish secondary and make Weis look foolish for kicking him to the curb way back when and be the guy who puts the final nail in Charlies coffin.

    Other than that nothing new! :)

    Retaining Charlie at this point would send the message that the football program is not nearly the priority we would like to think it is.

    <t>I can't see anything happening in these last 2 games that will save CW. It's over. You can't say ND on the whole is showing significant improvement. Come on, you lose twice to Navyat home in 3 yrs! What else do you have to say for God's sake?! <br/>
    <br/>
    Sorry CW, it's just over.</t>

    I heard Jim Harbaugh today on ESPN Radio driving home, he professed his love for Stanford football, the school, the team, the stadium, the traditions, and hopes to be the coach for a long time. He said there will be an announcement sometime soon regarding his future. So it looks like with the ND and UM jobs hanging there, Stanford probably ponyed up to the table and gave him a long term big time salary and I wonder if they gave him some slack on recruiting as it's tougher at Stanford for football players than it is at ND.

    Cross another one off the list.

    Gruden...gone
    Harbaugh...gone.

    I haven't but I believe one of the owners is Mike Golic. I assume he stays there for the games.
    I'd be interested in your thoughts about the place.

    ndfan,

    The Waterford Lodge is a converted motel - formerly a Ramada Inn, I think. I haven't been inside since the conversion, but I've seen photos. I believe there is a website. The rooms are functional for short weekend stays. The location is excellent, just north of campus, about 1/2 mile north of where the toll road exit 77 empties onto 933 (formerly U.S. 31).

    Have fun. Where are you coming from? Are you driving?

    Don't you just love the internet. People can just make stuff up and it gets legs and becomes something that has to be addressed.

    Yep, this is probably only the tip of the iceberg......geeez. I'm sure there is lots more to come over the next few weeks. <br/>

    One thing, if Swarbrick is going to let CW go he needs to do it as soon as possible to let the next coach do as much as he can on the recruiting front.</t>

    Sid,
    Flying in from Jersey. My wife's cousin's wife's sister and husband graduated from ND and they are on their honeymoon so I swept up their tix and the place they have "rights" to, the waterford. They actually switched the room from $300 to $200 which is nice.

    Last time I was at ND was three? years ago UCLA and stayed at same hotel (dump) as guys from on here, but didnt meet them.....

    Well in reading practice reports I read one where they said Jack Swarbrick was sitting with Charlie and they were both smiling and talking. Of course the rumours are that at 8-4 Charlie stays.

    What I wonder is what will Charlie do if he loses Sat? Charlie I do believe loves the University and he has his foundation there in South Bend, built a huge home and all. It's not uncommon for coaches who are relieved of duties to continue to be employed by the University in fund raising and community relations. Texas A&M did that with R.C. Slocum, David McWilliams still works for the University of Texas, so it's done. Now on the other hand Franchionne wouldn't have been welcome in any capacity.

    Also I wonder if Charlie will take a few year(s) off and tend to his personal health. Some have commented that he really still looks in pain.

    You look at our offense and you say no way we lose to UConn. You look at our defense and say no way we can win.

    I think we squeak by in a high scoring game this week. Next week I think Stanford "woodsheds" us in Charlie's going away party.

    In this article, the AD, Jack Swarbrick, opens up about the process and the timetable:

    ND's AD Addresses Questions About Coach Weis' Status
    Gee......Ya think? :roll:

    I'm glad to see him calling out the generally negative tone of message boards in a diplomatic way. He's a sharp guy. I like his style.

    From that same article I think this is a very telling quote. One that leads me to believe that Swarbrick doesn't want to let Charlie go, and won't should he finish 8-4

    I do hope though that if he does have a great relationship with Weis, that it hasn't stopped him from doing his job and having a short list of coaches who can be approached once Weis has been relieved of duty. I notice that whenever Stoops is asked about the ND job he always says Notre Dame has a coach. Coaches don't like to publically seem to be available for another coaches job until after he's fired.
