With the win over Penn State and Michigan in the same day, Stu is liable to be headed for a late night of celebration. Congrats Stu!!!
Thanks...just recovering now... Trivia question (no looking it up, please)...the last time that Purdue won in the Big House in Ann Arbor... Who was the kicker? (you thought I was gonna ask about the QB, didn't ya?)
I don't think they had the internet when Purdue last won in the Big House. Kicker...hmm Bob Griese? A lot of guys back in the day did double duty, If not Bob Griese then Len Dawson? Paul Hornung was the kicker at ND when he won the Heisman.
Congrats, Stu. Two years in a row that the Boilers put up pinball machine numbers on our defense. I think the last time Purdue beat Michigan in AA is 1966. Griese never lost to Michigan. It also looks like the interaction between our two Southern coaches following the game means that they have imported a SEC-style coaching fued into the staid, button-down, Big 10. I am not sure it will be a theatrical as the Urban-Kiffin duel but it will add a little bit of life to the league http://www.annarbor.com/sports/post-game-handshake-turns-personal-for-rich-rodriguez-and-purdue-coach-danny-hope/ If you look at the comments after the article, it is clear that the natives are getting restless in Ann Arbor.
Bobda, I read about the post-game "conversation" between Hope and RR. Interesting, to say the least. I have no idea if Hope has a case, but I don't care. It should be a good source of entertainment in the future......as long as they both are in their present jobs. Someone mentioned to me that the last time Purdue beat MI at AA was JoPa's first year as head coach at PSU. I didn't check it out, but if true, it emphasizes how long ago that was.
Bobda, Rich Rod is from the Big East, I'm not sure he has the background to copy the SEC. Tough loss.
Sid, I think circumstanial evidence supports Hope's conclusion. The week after Mouton was suspended, RR, at his press confernce, brought up the topic of Reckmans' hit and, lo and behold, Reckman was suspended. I like RR but he should have confined his comments to his own player and whether he thought the suspension was justified or not and not express an opinion about what happened in a game that did not involve his team. Hope's action of taking the opportinity of a victorious, post game handshake to rub it in Rodriguez' face is something out of the Buddy Ryan school of winning with grace and maybe a bit bush league, but I give him credit for expressing his dissatifaction to Rodriguez in a creative, face to face manner.
It's hard to know if RR was the cause of the Purdue player's suspension or not. I happened to be watching the game and saw the punch, as did everyone else in the stadium. It drew a penalty, unlike the Michigan player's more covert action, which was seen only after the fact. For that reason, I wonder if Hope is barking up the right tree. Nevertheless, the way RR whined about it, I believe the confrontation is appropriate.....and entertaining.
Thanks, Bob...Unfortunate that coaches feel the need to get into these little pissing contests. My take: 1. It was kind of low class of Hope to do that. 2. RichRod seems to be a bit of a whiner...not sure it was necessary to bring it up in the press conference. Anyhow...here are the two cheap shots. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zPYueAc5XAE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zPYueAc5XAE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/E-SAV1U8Hl4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/E-SAV1U8Hl4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
