I am sure some voters may feel the way you do but as I say his "stats" will improve dramatically the next three weeks when he gets his crack at defenses like some others have had cracks at. 4 TDs vs. a pretty bad Georgia defense is a good indication of that. Hey....did you see Bill's positive play of the week? Tebow's record setting TD run....all time SEC leader in rushing TDs and he's not even a running back? On his performance vs. LSU it was an amazing performance considering the injury he had sustained vs. Ky two weeks earlier.
You're kidding right? I think Jimmy Clausen would lick his chops at the prospects of playing against the Charleston Southern DB's.....he'd likely match Timmy's total year production in that game alone.
I think you have a point about easy schedules BT. In looking back on 2006 it would seem Troy Smith won his playing an easy schedule but when he ran up against the Gators he hardly looked Heisman like did he? Hindsight can be so wonderful don't you think? Just saying.
But the Heisman isn't supposed to be for playing inspite of injury. Clearly Tebow has had a great career, but his best year was and still is his Soph year, last year wasn't as good and this year hasn't been as good as last year. His play has declined over the 3 years. He's still a great leader and no doubt an inspiration to his team, but UF is undefeated because of the UF defense not Tim Tebow. He'll be a future College Football Hall of Famer and he's already got a Heisman. Several great games at the end of the year after an average first half shouldn't be what earns anybody the award.
Whatever you say Bill,, but I suspect the Longhorns in Austin and the Stripeheads that Troy torched together to the tune of almost 700 yards of total offense may disagree a little.....I know you're chapped, but there is no reason to get ridiculous and play the child.......again.
Terry, I don't buy that Tebow's play has declined. In 2007 we had to score, score, score to win and Tebow did more offensively. Last year and this year he doesn't have to be the same as in 2007 for the Gators to win. Actually in the SEC Championship game and the BCS Championship game last season Tebow took the team on his shoulders in the 3rd and 4th quarters and played some of the best football he has played at Florida. Also remember there was a lot of posters here on Skybox saying Tebow didn't deserve the trophy that year because the Gators weren't very good. so now a lot of folks here don't want him to win while the Gators are stronger on defense because he doesn't have as good individual numbers. Go figure. I think Tebow has a good shot at the Heisman, I don't make him the front runner but he is in the mix.
Seems like a awful lot of Heismans were pretty disputed by fans of other teams. I still can't believe that Peyton Manning didn't win the Heisman. I can't say that I am without bias here since Clausen is Irish and Colt McCoy is Texas. I can say I won't lose any sleep or feel disrespected if neither of them win the Heisman and Tebow does. Just won't agree with it. Not to mention so much changes year to year, some years it is definitely about stats and some years it's about being the best player on the best team, some years a player just sort of captures the imagination of the voters.
That's a great approach Terry and one that I agree with. I want my guy to win it but if he doesn't his and my life go on. I also agree about Peyton.
What does that have to do with the Heisman trophy? Should he get votes for the Heisman because the Gators are stronger on defense?
Not my intent Bill......and by the way, I think we all remember that your Gators won. But if it helps soothe your soul, feel free to remind us again....btw, who deals with the moderators when the moderators act like jacka$$es?
Tell you what Terry I believe that is the first time I have ever commented or reminded of that game. And truthfully if I was dealing with someone who I felt gave as much respect for others opinion as they seem to expect for their opinion I doubt I would have said it this time. You seem to have a lot of opinions you express and expect to be respected whether it's about schedule, player actions, coaching actions or Heismans. Problem is I don't see much of the same in reverse from you. I also don't remember calling you names like childish or jackass. I may have thought them but not typed them. Perhaps I should change that to have thought them but tried to be courteous and not say them. But since you have played the jackass moderator card at me you are probably right that I should call it a night.
Actually not Bill.....it was just recently during our discussion of Gator scheduling practices....you felt the timing right to remind us all again of your victorious trip to the desert and your magnificent victory over one of the most overrated teams in history as I recall.....when you resort to childish tricks, I gotta call it.....it is what it is.
I HATE WHEN PEOPLE DO THAT! Wait a minute....victorious trip to the desert? Magnificent victory?.... That's the '96 Fiesta Bowl....why would Bill bring that up?
Actually Terry I don't really remember saying it in that conversation but t I may have because that conversation with you was really along the lines of my quote listed in your quote above. As to resorting to childish tricks? I don't know what trick you are talking about, I think my comment is pretty straight forward. Call whatever you want, you have a marvelous way of confusing your opinion with fact.
Just for the record in case there is any confusion in any Ohio State's fans, or any other fans, minds about 2006, Troy Smith deserved the Heisman and Ohio State earned their way into that game. I was just making a point and seemed to have hit a nerve. I have to go manage my Skyboxer's Fantasy team to see if I can sneak into the playoffs since I have to play what appear to be two of the strongest teams in the league the last two weeks and can't afford a loss.
