Desmond Howard had one once in a season ending win over Ohio State ( I was there ) and now Tim Tebow has his in a big rivalry win over Georgia:

I think Tebow is in the Heisman driver's seat at this point.

4 TDs yesterday....2 running and now is the all time SEC rushing leader in TDs....as a Qb no less.

If Eric Crouch can win a lifetime achievement Heisman I think Tebow is holding his own enough this season with his Heisman competitors and he is doing enough for the #1 ranked team in the nation to win his second trophy.

Don't get so excited about a good game against a Georgia defense that ranks just behind Akron, Bowling Green, Houston and Western Mich.

Crouch was the main cog in a dominant offense and much more productive in his Heisman winning season -v- many of his competitors....he also won the Davey O'Brien award. Had Crouch been able to take a few more snaps after halftime with the Huskers up by 30 or so, his numbers would probably have been off the charts.

Tebow is the unquestioned leader of an offense that has sputtered the better part of the year.

There are dozens of players that have had more productive years than Timmy....dozens. Some of them also happen to lead undefeated teams.....Some of them - Clausen - are literally carrying a team on their back. It would make a mockery of the award, imho.

I think merely getting another invite to New York would be for career achievement.

    Seriously,
Going into yesterday's game Tebow had 8 TD passes and 4 were against Troy (one against Charlestonn Southern) At the same time he had four ints 2 of which were returned for TDs. Why was he in the running at all?
(possibly a great D and some fortunate calls.)

I love it when Nebraska or one of it's former players are used as examples of comparison to accomplishment. It really is a compliment....or jealousy, one of those 2.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

This is what I feared when Tebow won the award as a sophomore. We've now reached Tiger Beat/Jonas Brothers level of celebrity worship in which brand is clearly in consideration over substance. That isn't what this award suppose to be. Then again, this award has been a joke for some time now.

I'm not saying the kid isn't in the running. As the best player for perhaps the best team in the country, he's right there in the mix. But no one is winning anything based on a 'stirring' performance against a really average Georgia team.

BTW-nice win for you guys this weekend. I hope Georgia keeps those black helmets for another date. It really seems that UGa is another team when they're away from home.. and that is troubling when they are average at-best when at home. Still, a win over a rival is a win over a rival.

AJ....if Crouch could win that year after having his stats blown away by Grossman...who also Qb'd Fla to an SEC title....then Tebow can take the Heisman this year in spite of the stat to stat comparisons to others.

I think the critical stat this year is that Tebow already has a Heisman. So you can't (or shouldn't) give it to him based on a "great career".

Big, big difference here......Crouch was leading a magnificent offense - often taking no snaps in the 3rd or 4th quarters and was still amongst the most productive QB's in the country......the Gator offense has struggled and Timmy isn't even close. There are dozens of players having better years than Tebow....dozens. It would truly be bizarre and ruin the award for years to come, imho....

Oh really now.....these "dozens" have fought through a concussion, playing an SEC kind of schedule against defenses like Tenn and LSU and leading their team skillfully to a no loss ( so far ) season?

Wait until you get a load of Tebow's stats in the next two games......even the next three games.....unless he pulls a Crouch and gets yanked.

I wonder about the Nebraska schedule that year. Will have to check it out.

If we're gonna given credit for injury, then Bradford must be due a repeat......they were undefeated when Sam was on the field and he was vastly more productive than Tebow.

Tebow is a great kid and a great player but there are many, many players that are more worthy of the award this year.....

    See, here's the issue...

What you are attempting to do could have been done to countless players before in previous years but was not. Brady Quinn was eliminated from the Heisman by the media for losing to Michigan in the 1st week of the year. All because it cost him the 'signature win'...

Others showed gutty performances and led their teams to great years (even NCs) fighting of injuries...

The only reason Tebow is in the Heisman discussion this year is because he won it two years ago and was close last year.

If he wins it, then it will be a Josh Heupel (sic?) like Heisman.. best player on the best team kinda thing. I really don't have an issue with that except that isn't really what the award was suppose to be.

What would NU's schedule from that year prove? How would 2001 affect 2009?

I'll save ya time though Dave. They won all their games until they got whipped by CU in November in the last game. They didn't get to the B12 CG because of that loss.

TCU, Troy, Norte Dame, Rice for Non cons that year.....TT, OU, Baylor from the south 12.

Vandy and FIU right.....you've got to be kidding me. I have no doubt that he will get plenty of snaps in those games. Hell, I'd bet Cincy would be willing to bring Tony Pike off the bench to pad his stats - tho injured - in those games....should Pike get credit for his productivity prior to injury? I'm sorry the kid was injured, but give him a Purple Heart, not the Heisman.

BTW-given how sh*tty that schedule is, you'd really think his numbers would be huge.

Oh I know.. they SECCG is worth +10...

Nope, not at all.....Tebow Heisman worthy performances in those games? Nope, not even close. Like I said, give the kid a leadership award, citizenship award, purple heart, courageous comeback player....sure, he gets my vot. Heisman? No way.....
