OK now LeBron is getting into it. I don't know if Pryory can survive all this advice? LeBron and Pryor
I'm just saying... given his skill set.. he would have done well playing for DickRod. As an ND fan, it's the last thing I'd like to see. However, for him, that wouldn't have been a bad choice. It's like.. Ohio State has what they want to do offensively. TPryor has what he can do offensively. The two don't mesh at all and neither side seems to know what they're going to do to correct it. You guys have a lot of talent but there's no method to the madness.
I'm still thinking that losing our best two running backs has a little to do with it...we'll be alright, boys.
I agree with Corey on this one. TP may be a great talent....but under Tressel he's no Craig Krenzel.....or even Troy Smith for that matter. Maybe the kid will get there eventually and mesh a little better because I doubt Tressel is going to change up completely what his offense does. The adjustments can be made on both sides however.....witness what Urban Meyer was able to do with Chris Leak and vice versa in their second season together.
He's only 1/2 way through is Sophmore year. Last year at this time people were ragging on Jimmy Clausen, this year he's a Heisman candidate and people like Mel Kiper say he'll be a 1st round draft choice if he comes out this year. A lot can change quickly.
Terry is right, he is only halfway through his Sophmore year he may well do better next season. I was also a bit surprised he didn't go to Michigan, that offense would seem to be a perfect fit for his talents.
Chris Leak was a 4 year starter by the time he was able to click in his style with Meyer's philosophy. It may take Pryor another year or two of seasoning to really shine with Tressel since their styles have the differences they do. I mentioned Smith and I think Pryor should study the success that Troy had under Tressel because maybe that would be a model.
The difference being that Clausen had 5 turnstiles blocking for him. Pryor is playing surrounded by some of the best talent in the nation. Clausen was leading the pack of freshman and sophs that Charlie had to play because Ty was a bust. I agree it is early, but I just don't see the scheme here. No method to the madness whatsoever.
He is and the offense is a work in progress.....very young virtually across the board - backs, OL and wideouts, but very talented in most places. None of the backs are world beaters, but are quite serviceabler when healthy which has been an issue. I am quite confident that they will find a good place at some point after which they will be a handful.....we just haven't found that place..... the Minny game was better along most dimnesions....still a few poor decisions and hurried throws, but definite progress. It is quite a sight to see when your QB punks a DL with the stiff arm then beats a DB to the pylon.....not many of those kids around. They'll get there.....
Everyone else has, so I'll throw in my two cents! 8) I think there are two paths here, and of course most fans only see the one that "produces" the quickest. From what I can tell Tressel wants a pro-set offense run by the best athletes he can get. Currently Pryor's mental skill set would probably favor the zone read offense that Texas ran with VY. It's very simplistic in the passing game, (pretty much one primary target and then bolt if he's covered) but greatly accentuates the running ability of the QB. Right now that would probably be a great offense for Pryor to run. He'd get tons of yards, and have few INTs. However... that system in no way prepares the QB for progression reads in the passing game. He will never advance in that aspect. If you want a QB to learn to execute pre-snap reads, and a progression passing game he's got to play in that system to get there. That seems to be Tressel's goal, and I'm sure Pryor wants that too since it's the way to succeed in the NFL. I guess the question is: would TP make that offense good enough to win it all if he was working from the zone read? You won't know if TP will be a great QB in the more sophisticated offense until either the light comes on, or his career ends and it never happens...
Scott, Very iinsightful....I think you've hit the nail on the dead. I'm rooting for the "light comes on" scenario. Hints of progress on Saturday, a cream puff coming up to provide more work and hopefully TP will close strong in November. At present, JT is running a hybrid - perhaps the point Corey is making - sprinkling zone read and speed option looks while trying to bring TP to the next level in terms of his mechanics and decision making....I think he has progressed, but much work to be done.
