Pretty good Tom Forde article on ESPN.com on defense. He makes a good point that all the hype coming into the season was the great QB's out there and the terrific offenses. But it's come down to defense. Top teams all have top defenses. Also some comments on ND/USC. Good reading. Defense
Interesting article Terry, when was the last time a defensive player won the heisman and do you think the media would allow a defensive player to win it...? It sure would be nice to see the best player win it for a change and not just QB's, RB's and WR's...
Charles Woodson won it in 1997. I thought it was undeserved and that Peyton Manning deserved. In general I'm against defensive players winning the Heisman, let them win the Outland Trophy or the Lombardi Trophy.
Terry I just don't see where the original intent was to crown only offensive players...I have noticed where the media has made it that way... http://www.heisman.com/index.php
Well when the Heisman award was first concieved the players all went 2 ways. ND QB Johnny Lujack was AA DB and QB in his Heisman year and made the play of the year in the Army/ND game as a DB with a game saving tackle. So that designation was easy to carry out. But obviously things have changed. I know a lot of guys feel like you do and certainly there is media saying how come Eric Berry or Mr. Suh aren't being given serious consideration. That's all fine, but me I would never vote for a defensive player even if he were a ND player.
