Perhaps I could tack this onto another existing topic, but I get tired of hearing how "weak" our schedule is this year. The following is one of a series of short updates coming out of ND's Sports Information Department: 38th may not be the strongest, but it certainly is far from weak.
sid or gip my ticket lady Mary said she might be able to get me two for usc, I have a retirement party to go to that day so I wonder if any of you guys might be interested. The drawback is I might not know until about thur. or fri of gameday. The tickets by the way would be face. Let me know in the next few days if you might be interested. Sid I think the Irish ought to build a shrine to Moose(wasn't he the A.D. when these games were scheduled?) (that was TIC)
Our schedule this year is not a bad schedule, far tougher than a team like Boise State who will waltz through undefeated and maybe even get to the BCS championship game. But I hope we can get back to the days when our schedule was one of the best in the country every year.
The old thing about people crying about the other teams weak schedule is usually silly. The games are set well in advance and I don't see any way that Notre Dame's schedule is weak by historical standards. The Gators are getting some of that this season also but the same goes for us. If FSU continues in free fall we might need to drop them and schedule someone stronger.
Sid, I was one who thought our schedule would be weak, but it has turned out to be anything but weak.. Of course, people still refer to the 'weak' schedule but the facts just aren't on their side so far.
Lookie, lookie here <t>Sometimes W-L records aren't what they appear to be.....

Here are some noteworthy strength of schedule rankings thus far, per Jeff Sagarin:
1. Miami (no surprise)
2. Washington
11. Virginia Tech
12. USC
14. Georgia Tech
17. Michigan State
20. Oregon
27. LSU
30. Purdue
31. Ohio State
35. Iowa
36. Notre Dame
41. Stanford
42. Oklahoma
52. BYU
54. Alabama
60. South Carolina
72. Penn State
73. Boise State
84. Nebraska
90. Texas
93. Houston
97. TCU
107. Florida
109. Cincinnati
110. Ole Miss
119. Oklahoma State
139. Kansas
141. South Florida</t>
Some of those conference teams who have played lesser out-of-conference opponents are showing weak schedules at this point. That will change as the conference schedules get into full swing. Still, it supports the fact that ND's schedule is more than respectable, contrary to the current uninformed media spin.
Wow I didn't realize S. Florida was that low in the rankings...Virigina tech surprised me as well, Beamer is one of the most unappreciated coaches out there... RC
