say what you want about this staff and team, but unlike the squads of the last two HCs, these kids have heart. Hats off the Washington. Great effort. That's a good team. It makes me wonder just how good Stanford is and how in the hell they choked that game away at Wake Forest.
Some really great quarter backing today. Both Clausen and Locker were really special. edit: I couldn't let that stay, sorry. Terry
That was great. And Washington played well. BTW, have you ever seen roughing the center called when he doesn't even go to the ground? If anybody saw what happened I'd certainly like to know what they saw that I didn't.
I guarantee you that the roughing the center call was payback for the B.E. crew in the booth overturning the TD call earlier. They wanted to give UW a few more bites at the apple.
PJ Probably the same ref that called roughing the passer on Johnson in the first quarter. He obviously is a pacifist. Overall, I questioned a number of calls but didn't sense that they were onesided. Perhaps the most critical call was by the replay ref negating the W TD and spoting the ball at the 1/2 line. It kept W from going up 2 scores. I hope when they hand out game balls they give one to Hughes. I turned away in frustration on that 2 pt. try. Couldn't believe the replay.
Hey, I just saw this topic, I left a comment on the other one. You guys like living on the edge, congratulations on the win.
UW had 13 penalties called on them, Irish had 6...I guess the Pac10 refs don't have it in for Sam Young!
That's why I didn't mention them in my letter to Swarbrick. You've always been too hard on the PAC refs.
I'm in the tank for Jimmy Clausen. I think he'll be playing on Sundays very soon ..... like next season. Next to his obvious skills, he has a fiery personality and knows he's the field general. He reminds me of Favre.
Even if we were called for "only" 6 penalties, it's still too many when it's the personal foul type. Having said that, there's nothing we could do about the bogus PF penalty on the nose tackle. Someone said here that it was payback for the reversal of the TD. I believe it. One thing among many that makes me happy about the comeback win is that we overcame JC's inexplicable mental error in the first half, the backward pass to a covered RB that led to a TD. Here is a replay of my emotions during the 2nd half when we were on defense (language edited): I just don't know how to feel about our Jekyll & Hyde defense. We can't stop them, but we do something I've never seen another team do - ever - much less ND. Three goal line stands in one game where they made the difference between winning and losing. I hopeIhopeIhope that this is a turning point for the defense. I agree that Locker is a heckuva QB. I understand why he's rated very high by NFL draft gurus. Finally, all I can say is...... WOW!
I might be reading him completely wrong but I'm betting JC stays another year. Not that he couldn't leave after this year. Lord knows, I've seen enough high first round draft choices living here in the Detroit area. Still, I think he likes the college life. Senior year at ND was a lot of fun.
Honestly, I think Jimmy will stay. From a market standpoint, this class figures to be flooded with glamour picks that will have agents fleecing teams. Staying to next year could be a better business decision.
Well maybe he will, maybe he won't...but if he's told he'll go high in the 1st round then I can't see him staying. Even Charlie said if you're going high that it doesn't make a lot of sense. Plus age wise he's a Sr. right now, remember they held him back a year in Jr. High. The real question will be if he goes will Tate go? Tate is a great college player but I'm not sure he will be a 1st day draft choice, fast but not a blazer, not tall either. Speaking of Tate, if he keeps putting up numbers like he's doing he might jump into the Heisman race as well. Charlie will have to keep using him at TB/WR/KR/Wildcat etc. If he does and puts up numbers he might get some votes.
Sure McCoy, Bradford and Tebow could have gone as could have Jermaine Gresham the OU TE who would have been a 1st round draft choice. Gresham is done for the year with a knee injury, Bradford hasn't played since the first game with a shoulder injury and Tebow suffered a bad concussion and Colt McCoy's stock is dropping as he's tossed 5 picks already this year against the weak part of the schedule. So maybe he stays or maybe if he's told he's a high first rounder he decides that it's time to go. I don't know, but it's always a risk to not take the money and to stay. You can tell that Jimmy loves playing for the Irish and has a good relationship with Weis. So maybe if we finish the season strong and he's an AA and makes it to New Yawk he comes back for what could be a better team next year. Although he will be without Sam Young.
He's right. This was the 'trap' game in a lot of ways for us. This was the last game before the bye. The last game before USC. The last game at the end of the season opening stretch which has been a bit rough. What once seemed like a bit of a walk, turned out to be a lot tougher than people realized. A lot of pundits and hand wringing ND fans said at the start of the year that if Chuck lost either of his 1st 2 games, he'd be done for the year. He lost the 2nd one but found a way to go into the Bye Week in Week 6 at 4-1. He did so while losing his best WR (Tate is fun to watch, but Mike is a Sunday money player), the senior leader in his backfield and starting FB (Aldridge), and leading rusher Allen for the last 2 games. BTW, I may be in the minority here but I thought Allen hurt us today. He's still hobbled. Kudos on the heart, but we need to go with who can give the best to the team.
Before the season started Clausen's dad told my buddy that he wanted Jimmy to stay for four years. On the other hand, I think this is the last season that kids can sign these huge bonuses entering the NFL. We'll see.
