From the sounds of it we may be watching this situation for a while. SI reports a CT scan says no brain bleed which is a good thing but indications are that he has a severe concussion. Midway down in this series of posts is a medical breakdown of these types of injuries: http://forums.gatorsports.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3691038186/m/4411054429 Tebow's play yesterday exhibited how truly skillful he is running Urban's offense. UF needs to get him back for the Championship run. God bless him.
I wish Tebow the best as well as he seems to be an excellent young man and is certainly a tremendous leader and competitor. The way he runs and competes I think he is fortunate he hasn't suffered this sort of injury before but that is what makes him so great. He has guts and isn't afraid to do whatever it takes to make his team better. I hope he has a speedy recovery.
You know Aquila sometimes things just happen. A couple of plays before Tebow was hurt Jeff Demps took a beautiful pitch from Tebow into the endzone for a TD that would have changed up Tebow's circumstances on the field but on that play the TE Hernanadez was called for a very questionable hold. That holding penalty doesn't get called and Tebow is most likely home in Gainesville today planning for LSU already. Just the way things go sometimes.
The only question is 'why the hell was he still in a game you were winning 31-7 late in the 3rd quarter against a team that hasn't beaten you in almost two and a half DECADES... Your coach almost cost you the greatest player in the history of your program and one of the great (college) players of all-time going to pile on the score to play sexy for the polls. I was going to start a section with this same name but for entirely different reasons.. but then the kid got hurt and out of respect for him and you UF fans, I just didn't. I'm not even saying my own team's coach wouldn't do the same thing... but what I am saying (and have said this for some time) is that it's stupid. It is unsportsmanlike and in this case, it almost blew up your entire season. SOS used to run up the score up on people and his defense was hard to critique since he said 'we're just running our offense'... they were a passed based offense and that was (as disinguous as it may have been) a hard point of view to counter. Meyer can't make that claim. You guys are a running team first, second, third and foremost. I wonder if Kentucky was still trying to win the game? Anywho... I'm glad that it looks like the kid will be OK as he seems like a great young man. I do wish him the best. I just wish we'd see and end to the RUTS generation. People should be calling Meyer to the carpet for what he was doing there. There's no denying that what he was doing was exactly that and he almost got the player of this generation knocked the eff out for the rest of the year... Inexcusable!
Corey, while I agree with some of your points there are also a lot I don't agree with. Perhaps a different topic on discussing what you are talking about would be a legitimate discussion. One thing I do know is that in this time of high octane scoring a 34 - 7 lead isn't insurmountable, and Kentucky has come from behind in games with us to make it interesting more than once. I remember the choke at Doak where we lead FSU 31 - 3 in the 4th quarter and the game ended a tie. I also think that Brantley was going to be coming in during the 4th quarter. But in general I kind of agree with your thoughts.
yeah I didn't mean to hijack your thread Bill. Sincerely I didn't. I just saw Dave going the route of 'a very questionable call put Tim in that situation' and I wasn't going to let that fly. Speedy recovery to the young man!
Actually it was 31-7 with 6-7 minutes left in the third and I am certain Urban's plan was to take him out after that series....which as I said earlier should have been over a few plays before with a TD result except for poor officiating. In any event I was at Urban's first game in Lexington in 2005 and a cushy 42-7 halftime lead turned into 42-28 early in the 4th quarter and a redfaced Urbs had to bring the first string back in......which I am sure he has not forgotten.
Tebow takes the shot to the face and the back of the head... with 4 minutes left in the 3rd qtr... <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cnUA8UogGmE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cnUA8UogGmE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Corey, I watched that so many times yesterday I almost know it by heart. It would appear the real damage was done when his head went backward and was hit by the knee of one of his own players.
Bill, I agree 100%. The first shot was tough, the 2nd one was the damage causer. I just posted it to refute Dave's claim about how much time was left.
What...I missed it 2-3 minutes? I would say you damned near corroborated what I said. Anyway....as I have said....that scoring drive should have been over at the 6-7 minute mark were it not for some bad judgement on a holding call and it's just not too often if ever a coach takes the starter out in the middle of a drive in the 3rd quarter.
sweet effing jesus....... I said 'late in the 3rd quarter'.. You corrected me by saying it was 'actually 6 or 7 minute'... I showed it was late in the 3rd.. now you claim to be off by just a few minutes. Fine, have it your way. Urbie wasn't trying to pile on the score. It wasn't late in the 3rd with a commanding lead against a team you've beaten 23 straight times... Just write in whatever your reality is and we'll all just go along with that.. That's what we do in the BCS, we can just do it here on the board as well.
GB, After seeing the replays of the tackle, it is a minor miracle that he did not blow out a cervical disc or sustain a spinal cord injury. I do not recall seeing a hit where a player's neck flexed so violently forward as Tebow's did after the back of his head struck the leg of his lineman. Tebow is a great college football player and from all that I I've read, an outstanding person. I am glad to hear that he is out of the hospital and expected to have a full recovery.
Ditto Bobda. He will live forever in the annals of UF football as one of the greatest to play the game. Thank goodness his injury is not more serious.
Corey, Florida had possession of the ball for 2:30 in the 3rd quarter ( ended in a punt ) before receiving a punt on it's own 26 with 7:34 left in the quarter. The Gators then went on a 10 play 60 yard drive....led by Tebow until injury. They had scored on a run by Demps....it was taken away and the score was still 31-7 Florida as the Gator offense had not scored since the 1st quarter and Tebow was in on the drive trying to seal the deal. I do not think Meyer wanted to pull Tebow in the middle of this drive and finish with two scoreless quarters for the first team offense with LSU next up. On this drive for those reasons I agreed while watching the game with Meyer keeping Tebow in until it was completed. I doubt seriously Tebow would have played another series.
Thanks Bobda and Sid. When he was laying on the ground spinal injury came to my mind. I've followed Gator football for long time and we've had star players in the past, Spurrier, Emmitt Smith, Wuerfell to name probably the top several. But I have never seen a player capture the fans at as many levels as Tebow. I don't know if any of you were watching the game but when they scanned the crowd as he was on the ground there were tears and looks of horror. Anyway it looks like it is going to end well.
