I've watched it 6 times now, I can't see any "fist full" of jersey. In fact, it was a clean block in so far as Young is concerned. It was a terrible and critical call.
Gipp, Yeah Rudolph hit him then Stewart and the guy went to the ground pulling Stewart, No holding what so ever.....JOKE Mean Young not Stewart...too pissed to care last night
I've been looking at the way our WRs and Ms WRs were covered and there was a big difference. Apparently illegal contact and defensive holding doesn't apply to BT defenses. Amazing how the officials made the game that close.
i got the game DVR'ed, Young didn't hold on that play. Rudolph chipped the guy and he was losing his footing as he went into Young. He was already airborne and headed sideways. Young pushed him down to the ground. Still, we catch the GD ball and we win. I am really interested about the clock. Somehow we went from 11 seconds to 10 seconds..and then after Clausen went to them to put the 1 second back on the clock, no one noticed that they actually took another second off the clock so we snapped it with 9. Again, with the benefit of DVR I can tell ya that Tate fumbled out of bounds with 1 second on the clock and that one ticked away too. Charlie actually ran after the officials but they were gone up the tunnel. I would really hope that someone outside of the Big10 reviews that tape. Still, we catch the GD ball and we win.
Special teams and a critical turnover by a rookie RB were the difference. Otherwise we would not be complaining about the refs. TOK, your concern about the overly aggressive defense was well-founded. Our defense is better but still has a long, long way to go. The good points: 1) We have a very solid running game as long as Allen remains healthy, 2) the O-line provided excellent protection for Clausen all day, 3) Clausen has improved immensely in terms of not getting caught holding the ball when pressured by the opposing defense, and 4) We showed today that we can come back when down, both early in the game and late, which IMO is a huge step in the right direction. This is a good team that beat us today, BUT (refer to paragraph 1 above). It hurts like hell, but we definitely have reason to feel good about where we are. Corey, they ruled that Riddick touched the ball before it went through the end zone, hence the 2 seconds off the clock.
I doubt it. In fact, if they win 8 games I'll be really surprised. When they're playing conference games they can't get ******** calls like that.
I'm not blaming the refs. Congrats, Bobda. We'll probably win 8 games this year and have a new coach next year.
Good news: Michael Floyd did not injure his knee, he cut his knee and had to go for stitches. On the last play, Charlie said that Golden was supposed to go to the ground after he caught the ball not try to get out of bounds. We had 1 timeout and could have taken the shot to the endzone and the clock would have stopped automatically when he went to the ground as it was a 1st down.
Congratulations Bobda! That was a great game to watch. As I stated in an earlier post, when you are not directly involved, objectivity becomes a bit easier. I had picked Notre Dame in the Pick Em contest. Don
ND/mich <r>Well for me this was a coaching loss. ND had superior talent on the field but lost this due to penalties, mental and coaching errors. I will not go over to the NDNATION and UHND boards and start yelling to fire CW like I'm sure is already happening but it is over in my mind for him. When you have more talent on the field and good coaching you should win , we had the talent yesterday they should have won comfortably.<br/> <br/> I'm getting to old for this crap. We need a proven College coach at ND. <br/> <br/> I'll go into my week of depression now. <E>:?</E></r>
Well I tell you what Mr. Gentry, you've got my vote. You and PJIII were the only ones who truly believed in the Irish (at least by the pick 'em stat's). Even though you didn't bet the max (close enough) it was still miles apart from the 1's and 2's put down... If the others had the same loyalty as you and PJIII do, there would be a different looking leaderboard.
Tim, Eric Olsen was quoted after the game as saying several of the players were "coasting" this week in practice. I was taught you play like you practice. Draw your own conclusions.
I also want to commend PJ and Tim for betting with their hearts. As for me, we've been so bad for so long that it's going to take more than the win over Nevada to restore my bravado. By the way, AJ, I'd have bet 21 confidence points that you would point that out. You didn't let me down.
Gip, I would say the coasters were on the defense that was eviscerated in the second half by a freshman QB.
Thank goodness Grorge, I thought for a minute that the O line that generated over 150 yds rushing yesterday had been coasting. I sort of miss that topic of pissing this season.
I said a week ago that if we could average 125-150 yards rushing we would be very difficult to beat. I never thought the D could be shredded like that.
As you know I disagree with MCG strongly on many of his posts including referees. I didn't see your game either as I mostly watched Tennessee and UCLA. But it does seem to me that most fans think the referees favor the other team. I wish I had watched this game more, it was a really exciting game that I missed. Unfortunately you can't get them all. Congratulations to Bobda and condolences to the Irish fans. Hey AJ I predict Charlie is stil the coach at Notre Dame next year and Urban is still at Florida.
I thought NBC was bad, but two things....Why did ND get a penalty after they scored to kick off almost from the goal line? Couldn't have been celebration b/c after Mich scored they had a huge pile on like they just won the game. Secondly, What happened to Manti? Saw him first series then nothing til the last....
